      @tella said:

how does it performs with high poly count scenes.

Not very well. Although SU runs on 64bit systems, it can't run on more than a single core, so a 64bit quad-core system will perform no better than an XP 32bit Pentium 4 system for example. In fact, it may perform worse if the speed of one of your cores is less than that of a single core system. When I went from a 2.3GHz P4 system to a Centrino Duo 1.83GHz system SU slowed down by about 25%, while progs which support multicores sped up by about 75% which is what one would expect. Having said that, 4Gb Ram and a 640Mb carg will improve performance a bit, especially regarding texturing. A model with 20,000 faces runs ok, but sluggish on my machine (see spec below). I can only guess that 7m faces would be impossible for SU to handle on any machine- in fact a file with just 1% of those polys is probably a no-go. I may be wrong though- maybe Craig D or one of our landscape designers can chip in.

Well, this all looks very good. I'll just move my drawing board and kettle into that space over by the window. Anyone for coffee?

      Great work Coen! πŸ˜„

      Mike,

      Will do.

BTW, did you see your Happy Birthday and "Mike's got his Trike" threads on the Corner Bar?

Hmmm, I'm over in Sweden regularly- I'll look into this, it could be handy.
      Thanks Mike.

    • RE: TraceParts library

      Bob,

Aha! Thanks for unravelling that mystery - that website is a perfect example of a great idea badly executed. First of all the index is tiny, repetitive and very dull to hunt through, then you have to fill your shopping basket, go to your email account, save the attachment zip file, extract the zipe file, then go into each file's folder to get to the actual skp component.... and then they're almost uselessly high poly! πŸ˜’ Many 3D download sites are moving towards drag and drop files into SU for crying out loud!

Still, I got a couple of nice accurate WCs which I'll remodel to about 1/10th of the poly number.

Thanks for explaining that to me,

This site looks AMAZINGLY useful- I registered straightaway, but can't find the download link. I loaded 3 items into my caddy (shopping basket), but after that I looked everywhere, but can't find the link to download them. What gives?

    • RE: So what's in 6.4.112?

      Tricia,

Thanks for replying- almost all my model locations are set to Edinburgh, Scotland (UK). I've just checked and three models which are displaying this bug have North Angles of 190Β°, 0Β° and 25. I'm pretty sure all my skp files display this bug, but not all of them have scenes saved with shadows. I'd be happy to email them to you.

      Regards,

      Bernard,

Beautiful work, especially in the props. Can I ask though- it looks like a straight SU render? If so I'll move this thread across to the SketchUp Gallery.

    • RE: So what's in 6.4.112?

I must admit I'm disappointed that the "shadow settings saved in scenes get reset between sessions" bug still hasn't been fixed. This drives me nuts every time I reopen an SU file having to go to every page, adjust the shadow settings up by 1 hr, then down by 1hr (to fix the bug), then update the page.... KNOWING that as soon as I close that session I'll have to do the same again.... and no it's not machine dependant. I'm surprised everyone hasn't been kicking up about this.

Apart from that, it's good to see 2007 dwgs supported now. πŸ˜„

I don't understand- where was this link? In a post? It's just a webhosting site, nothing sinister.

Here's one I did a while back, dull standard details, but I really enjoyed modelling them at this level of accuracy.

I doubt you'll get any useful info here as it would be a little senstive to discuss on a public forum (and they'd probably be swamped with folks offering their services asa result). Probably best to just drop them an email via their contacts page.

I LOVE these images! They're a million miles away from the architectural presentations I'm used to looking at, but I love their surreal dream-like quality.
