Need another clue- I'm about 90% certain that it's the Victoria Cross they're all wearing (am I at least right on that?), but nothing springs to mind to connect four of the 1,353 recipients and I'm not going to go through the whole list LOL. If it's not the VC then I'm completely stumped.

p.s. I think I'm going to have to ban myself from this thread- my productivity is down 100% and I think I broke Google. Just got to get this one and then I'm out!

    • RE: Who is it?

The thing that's baffling me is that they appear to all be wearing the Victoria Cross meaning they're either a) distinguished British military men or b) are British royalty..... but c) those moustaches are so typically Germanic/Austro-Hungarian aristocracy that I'm guessing they're not "British". πŸ˜•

Pete, at first I thought "where the heck did he get that from?", but right enough, in that photo there is a incredible likeness to the permed camp-rock guitarist (and if it had been Brian May the hair would have been a giveaway haha).

Alan is correct again (and showing off- I had to Google "El Orens" to see if he was right. LOL) It is indeed T.E. Lawrence or "Lawrence of Arabia" as he's better known. The connection of course was that Omar Sharif played opposite Peter O'Toole in the famous film. Well done Alan. πŸ˜„

OK, keeping a theme from Pete's pic here's another one.

Excuse the heavy cropping of the image- uncropped it would be waaaaay too easy.

      Omar Sharif. πŸ˜„

I was completely thrown at first as his uncanny resemblance to Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line" had me googling away in completely the wrong direction.

Oh, I should also say that yes, it was Groucho Marx- a slightly more familiar photo of the elderly comedy genius below.

I just makes my chuckle to imagine how many brain-storming sessions and millions of $$$ MS spent coming up with a name which people will exchange for the verb "to Google".

"This is driving me crazy, I can't find that restaurant phone number and I've been binging away all morning!"

OK, time for a slightly cryptic clue: His name and nationality would confuse a Cold War observer.

That is a tough one Jackson. Maybe you would allow 10 questions, with just a yes / no answer? If so, I would kick off with - Is he alive?

Mike, good idea, keeps the tempo up. Answer to your question is no.

Answer to Anssi is also no.

I don't want all my software integrated so tightly.

I wouldn't mind if it meant that their software was more stable as a result, but it's far from. As for Google's new homepage's image search options... 😑

I'm not sure the US market will take to it, Imagine a 300 pounder trying to firstly fit in and if he is able then to try taking a corner in that, sadly 300 pounds is becoming the norm.

You obviously haven't seen the version they produced for the US market... (couldn't resist! πŸ˜† )

Editing my post slightly after checking this gentleman's biography, it appears he worked well beyond retirement age.

LOL Pete, who knows maybe it is? (Sorry Edson, not questioning your parents' indubitable fidelity πŸ˜‰ )

Funnily enough, it only occurred to me a couple of days ago how much Edson resembles Jean Reno in his avatar!

    • RE: Install 7.0 and 7.1 side by side.

I just finished reinstalling SU7.0- turned out to be much harder than I was led to expect as simply uninstalling SU7.1 and installing SU7.0 screwed up the registry so SU7.0 wouldn't run. When I finally got it installed and running, V-Ray for SU wouldn't load.

3 hours later I finally got it to work thus:

**1 ) Copy the "Google 7" folder (which contains the SU 7.1 files) from "Program Files" to "My Documents" as a backup.

      2 ) Uninstall SU7.1 using CCleaner.

      3 ) Run CCleaner's registry tool.

      4 ) Run Registry Mechanic.

5 ) Manually delete the "Google 7" folder from "Program Files". Not deleting this is what screwed up the install the first two times.

      6 ) Run CCleaner's registry tool again.

7 ) Run Registry Mechanic again.

      8 ) Reboot.

      9 ) Install SU7.0.

      10 ) Reboot.

      1. Copy backed-up SU 7.1 files (Components, Materials, Plugins, Styles) from their folder in My Docs into the newly installed "Google 7" folder in "Program Files".

      12 ) Reinstall/Repair V-Ray for SU (it didn't load the first time).

      13 ) Reboot.
SU and V-Ray for SU appear to be working ok now, although I haven't run the test skp/VfSU file which was crashing this morning yet. Tests will continue tomorrow.**

Of course I can't say for sure that it was SU 7.1 which was causing these problems, but it's a huge coincidence that I've never seen SU crash to desktop before. That, combined with SU7.1 freezing when orbiting is enough to rule out using it for day to day work until the cause is tracked down.

    • RE: Install 7.0 and 7.1 side by side.

Thanks Csaba, but unfortunately that doesn't work- SU's installer detects that a newer version is already installed. I daren't try editing registry keys as I still have SU6 installed and God knows what gremlins will plague my machine if I have 3 versions of SU installed and a manually-edited registry! πŸ˜•

I guess I just have to uninstall SU7.1, reinstall SU7.0 and pray that it doesn't mess up my existing skp/V-Ray files.
