Workfl;ow is my main concern, not only for Sketchup but for my web productivity, I manege an number of sites and it can be overwhelming
my reasons for considering a mac are as follows:
-no it's not because of the commercials
-need a new system and figured I would consider mac
-on a short term contract with a company and it is a ALL mac office
-want sketchup to work with some rendering before I switch
-I have on my desk the hard-drives from 6 dead pc's so I need to strip off data
-tired of constantly troubleshooting windows
so any mac/sketchup/rendering software folks want to share thier experience
I hear ya - I have the full CS4 master for PC - and have to start fresh over, will keep my PC and gravitate sketchup over to the mac
yep...may make the pilgrimage to mac sio my question is
will the latest iMac and sketchup be a goot fit - is there anything I should look for and whatr are my rendering options
sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search earlier
any info appreciated
thanks Patrice
your right - it works fine with just a flat item

I created a series of components (semi-complex) and grouped them into a pattern shapes simular to puzzle pieces, I made it a component and wish to STAMP this into my terrain
each time I try Sketchup stops at 10% and becomes un-responsive, I did have some difficulty with having my pieces at the same elevation
I uploaded it - could this be a component issue of a computer horsepower one

any info appreciated

Thanks Jeff
found it in SELECT/AREA afte selecting and right-clicking

I seem to remember there was a tool to calculate the sq ft area from within SketchUp
any info or link appreciated

Can the mods close this thread - I will continue experimenting with the smustard image processing script and post any sucessfull results soon
New to the group - usually post questions in the Google Beginner section
----Question----
I have a large library of Trees/Shrubs and general Landscape plants - these are in a transparent PNG format with approx 300dpi
I noticed that smustard you can use thier plugin to make a 2D plant images fron the PNG format - does anyone have experience with this process - is there a 3D plant maker using the PNG file as a template
I have tried PlantStudio at
http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com to make 3D plant images - but am unsatified with the quality
any info appreciated

I updated the model
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=87be042fcf488a9529062f8c03a244fd
I notice the sides rollup anter creating the contours - I just wanted the contour to end at the completion of my line - it is rolliong up
any info appreciated

Thanks Chris
yep - that will work - no problem with the demo - I think you have given me enough to go on
thanks

thanks for the reply Jon Gaieus
Actually what I am looking for is to have the area to the right of the stairs follow the step grade - like a rising hill from the low point to the house porch elevation
the right section of the steps will be close to grade - the left side will require small retaining walls
I will try the stamp tool
link of staircase
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=87be042fcf488a9529062f8c03a244fd
I basically hung this staircase in the air from driveway to front porch landing - I would like to fill in the contours on both sides of the steps - the grade follows the step elevations
any info or process for me to try - much appreciated
~ian
thanks for the info - it worked I was able to
un-select the component
Yep - I will lose the handle and possible beef up the bottom plate with 1/2" steel
thanks again
~ian
Yikkes - it's worse than I thought - I just downloded it off 3D warehouse
I thought I re-saved the individual sign pickets with a different component name, what I am seeing is a jumble
part of my component is always highlighted - is there a easy to unselect - not sure why this is happening
~ian
I created this component (link below)for our Local festival - I am in charge of signage and last year the plastic signs disinigrated so I an going to dust off the welder and make one to last

Question can someone have a look and see if there are any real problems with my model - I relize there is some alighment + problems with the handle
any info appreciated
thanks Tom and Gaieus
appreaciate the comments - my primary purpose for the plant images are for my landscape design business, so I can get closer to the actual look n feel of the landscape.
I will experiment further and report back

thanks Gaieus
I spent the better part of 2 summers compiling the photography - trying to photograph plants with a OptiBlue background in my makeshift (cargovan) studio - then the fun task of masking the images - so I do have the images - just need to define an effective way to process them to be usefull
thanks

New to the group - am in the landscape design/build business, and interestd in being productive using SketchUp
I posted in the Components section earlier reguarding using the Smustard - image processing script to setup my plant images - Well I tried one this morning - I had is set to "FaceMe" however it appears to be a flat texture - I have a series of Questions below
(Caution 1mg)
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... 73d2b0d71d
a)any comments or a better process to get the filesize smaller - add depth - or create this as a 2.5D image
b) I had the setting at High - therefore a 1mg file (the png was 2mg)so I imagine I can set it lower
c)I have 2700 plant images I would like to Batch convert
d) any recommendations on the best practices for these images to make them usefull in my landscape design business
any info much appreciated
