I have a couple of questions.
I've made a quick test with a simple grouped wall and a simple rectangle that is made into a component.

Now I tried to make a hole in the wall (no window just a hole) I delete the face and keep the edges in the component. When trying to make this a wall cutter SU hangs with a spinning wheel and finally bugsplats.

      Hi Pixero,
I just recreated that on my computer. BANG - Bug Splat. It's good you found it. We'll look into a fix. In the meantime... don't do it. 😎

Now I tried to make the rectangle (with a face) to a wall cutter and that works and creates a hole but if I then delete the face and keep only the edges in the component I can't move the wall cutter object.
How do I create a dynamic hole with nothing in it?

Second question is if it would be possible to make wall cutter work with Fredo Scale?

Try hiding the face instead of deleting it. It will then work as you'd expect it.
Let me know how it goes.

While waiting, I went ahead and purchased your plugin only to find out that you are right: it can't be done at the moment.
      Disappointing......

However, what is encouraging is being able to punch in one of my windows into a wall I created with
Profile Builder 3 and when I shrink or expand the PB wall, I do temporarily lose my window, but once I press REFRESH it comes back. A relief.....!

In other words, this could be the combo I have been looking for that will fast track my building layouts: PB3 walls and Wall cutter for installing my own windows and doors.

Till then, though, perhaps we can clone you and your team in order to speed up what I need.......πŸ˜„

      Cheers.
      David

If we were cloned... one of us clones would have definitely answered your question a lot faster! πŸ˜„

Great to hear it's working well with PB3 and with the Refresh button!

We have the feature you need already working in our 'development branch'. I believe you'll be able to use it pretty soon.

      Hello,
Is it possible to use a window/door component with casings on BOTH sides and
only the FRAME of the win/door cuts the wall (a group), leaving the trim on both sides intact?
      With my thanks.
      David

      Hey David,
Yes it is possible... But we haven't released this feature yet. 😎.
It will be available in the next update of FlexTools. You will then be able to mark sub-components to be ignored by the cutting algorithm. We'll make an announcement when it's ready.

I'd like to cut a grouped wall geometry too.

WallCutter is designed to, and works best with wall geometry that is grouped into a component.

      @pbacot said:

Can we use somehow with our own window components?

Yes! You can convert any component into a WallCutter as long as the component's axes point is facing in the correct orientation (Z (blue) faces out) and (currently) that the window's shape is a convex hull.

      @pbacot said:

Despite expectations, I can rarely get two projects to have the same windows and trim, so it makes most sense to model a window with it's trim detail at the start of a project then modify it for all window sizes and types. When the windows are components or parts of components it can also help in all the changes that eventually and inevitably come.

If you make changes to the window manually you can then refresh the opening it creates. If it's a DC, the opening will refresh automatically.

It's good you reminded me about Trim! 😳 We'll add support for that shortly after the release.

      Hey Juju,
Sure, we'll do our best to add this feature in the next update, or the next after that...
In the mean time you can add this component to any folder on your hard disk, and have quick access to it through ComponentFinder.

If you want to change the default component that loads from the toolbar, you can replace the default door with this one. Make sure the new component has the same name => "flex_door_ft_1.skp". (Make a backup of the old one, just in case...)

      C:%ProgramData%\F3d_FlexTools\packages\components\flex_door_ft_1\component

      Hey Juju,

Please see the attached FlexDoor. It has an extra option under the 'Arc:' attribute called "Always ON". When you want to turn it off, you may need to open and close the door once to see the changes. It's not perfect, but it's way better than exploding! πŸ˜„

      flex_door_ft_1.6-arc always on option - Juju.skp

Regarding layers: The arcs are on a separate layer called FlexDoor_Arc. You can always change it's name to what ever you want and then save the component to a folder in ComponentFinder (now officially released as part of FlexTools!).

      Hope this helps,

Yoni, any chance we can get an option with the doors to have the door swing also show when the doors are closed? I keep on configuring the door and explode the component, rotate the door to the closed position and draw a missing line (door leaf in open position).

      Hi Juju,
I imagine you need this for presenting plans? Can you post an image or a model of what the end product should look like? I think I understand, but just to make sure.

haha, clever, it integrates with the FlexPack icons, was searching like mad to find it at first as I was expecting a separate new floating icon as one normally finds when installing a new extension...

      Hi Juju,

Forgive me for the confusion. Glad you found it eventually πŸ˜„.
I've updated the ComponentFinder page with an entry called FlexTools Integration, and updated the Learn page, showing the toolbar with, and without FlexPack.

Does that clears up the confusion?
