I downloaded it and so far I haven't come across any problems at all.
Actualy, I don't see much of a difference.
Is there anything different?

RE: What NOT to do when home from work
Exceptional work, John. Truely exceptional.
This proves what I tell so many people: when you work with SU you're actually working on your hobby. I know of very few other programs that are as powerful and veratile and fun and just plain addictive.
Again, beautiful work, John. -
RE: A question for the wood workers.
Thanks for all your responses.
I'm going to suggest that he use a polyurethane varnish but on the INSIDE of the goblet only. My thinking is that it would still help protect the wood while preserving the look and feel of the goblet on the outside.
What do you think? -
A question for the wood workers.
I know this has nothing to do with modeling but but seeing as there are quite a few woodworkers here I'm going to ask here anyway.
I met a man who has inherited a very old wooden goblet that was in the past used in the traditional Sabbath Eve ceremony when blessing over the wine. He would like to put it back into use and asked me how he might protect the wood from the wine while not ruining the taste of the wine.
Anybody got any ideas?Csaba, please don't be mad at me for posting this here.
Now, if we had a wood working sub forum........ -
RE: Brass Medallion
Hi Eric. In answer to your question:

In the center of the medallion, is that an image or did you model the flower
I can only appologise for not having posted the medallion model. It was late, I was tired, you know, the usual excuses for being scatter-brained
So anyway, here's the medallion skippy.
Plaster Medallion.skp
It's actually quite crude and I'm sure most of the guys could do something much more ellaborate but it does give a nice 3D effect. I took a photo of a plaster cieling medallion and slapped it on a disc. Then I traced around some of the parts, p/p'ed them a bit, projected the texture and basicaly that's it. The center 'flower' was a bit more work. I didn't want to just p/p because then I wouldn't get that 'leaf' effect, so I scaled down the flowers base and did a follow me of a gentle curve for the top skin. Then I re-projected the texture and moved the flower back onto the center of the disc.
Like I said, it's all pretty crude stuff. I think I probably would have gotten better results with soap-skin that with follw-me. So here's the skippy. I hope you find it useful. I'm planning to make a whole bunch of them and experimenting with different techniques. I'll post as I go along. -
Brass Medallion
Hi guys,
I'm working on a display cabinet for a collection of extremely rare glass art and the client wants a very classical looking unit. His desk is a 18th century copy of a 17th century French desk made of Mahagony and inlaid with brass trimmings and ornamentation (somewhat gaudy for my taste) and he wants the same sort of style to be reflected in the display cabinet. Just to give you some idea of the kind of things he wants to put in the unit, there's one vase by the Italian master Lino Tagliapietra worth around 35,000 Euro.(!!)
So anyway, as part of the ornamentation I made these eliptical brass medallions.
How do you like them?

RE: VCB dimensions order
It is in fact "X" (red) and then "Y"(green).
I find that the "z" (blue) axis dimensions are not a problem seeing as they are added or rather determined after activating the push pull tool or when determining the position of a guide point or moving an object. In other words, the vlue you type into the VCB in relation to the "z" axis refers only to the movement along that one axis and therefore a single value and not two values separated by a comma. If you are unsure of the order in which to type in the values just have a look at the way the values behave as you drag the cursor along. You will clearly see which value is the one you want for the "long" side.
I'll see if I can upload a clip of what I mean... -
RE: Display cabinet
Please Bruce, you don't have to feel remiss for anything. Your rendering was greatly appreciated and I truely thank you for it. I'm sure you've got tons of work to take of. It's going to be at least a month before I can post any pictures.
All the best'

Hungary is such a small country, but there seem to be so many expatriots. What that fabulous cabinet needs, Gidon, is some Zserbo.
Uh, sorry. I don't know what Zserbo is.

RE: Display cabinet
Oooops! I'm sorry! I was sure that I'd posted the file of the entier shop and I see now that I haven't.
So here is the file. All the pieces are there and only the one in the previous post has the marble on it. The top work surface is the marble slab.

RE: Display cabinet
Bruce hi, the marble goes on the unit in the attached jpeg.
Thanks a bunch, Bruce . -
RE: Display cabinet
Bruce, that's definately the right direction. Let me post pictures of Wenge wood and Travertine marble (it's a slab of marble, not tiles. One solid 2cm thick slab). I'm guessing you can use the JPEG for the rendering work. Or is that just in SU? I'm a complete ignoramus when it comes to rendering programs.
By the way, speaking of 'ignoramus':
Do you know what an ignoranus is?
It's some who is both ignorant and an arse-hole.
