You know what, this is a very noble project!
I've always loved all the books in the discworld series and always always wanted to build it as a model.
And wasn't at all happy with what they did in the films.
But yes it is a tall order for one person. might I suggest that you invite interested people to participate in this project and individuals can develop sectors. I, for one would be definitely interested in doing a small part of the city. That way you can actually get the different characterizations that are supposed to exist in Ankh-Morpork and it'd also be a lot faster.

Hi Mobius,
The funniest thing is I upgraded my ati drivers and I started to have this bloody problem of Hardware acceleration.
If I downgrade to the earlier driver the problem goes away. But, I can't even do that because I'm running Blender on my machine and it won't work with the older driver.
Anyway, try to use an older version of driver. I think it should work.
