    • [request] divide faces

This tool may already exist but I am trying to do box modelling in Sketchup and at the moment if I have a face I wish to split to create more edges to smooth out the model I am doing it with the line tool. Is there any tool that may do this to all selected faces to save me doing it manually?

I did see there are subdivide tools but that seems to iterate it far too much for my needs.

    • RE: Smooth 'feature'

Cheers, so it is a known bug of sorts?

I thought I was doing something at first by accident but it just kept happening. I will keep an eye out for that and try to avoid minimizing. Maybe its worth taking off autosave as I am used to saving often anyway thanks to using in house tools. πŸ˜„

    • Smooth 'feature'

      Hi,

I am trying to work out if this is a bug or there is some combo key that is near to another feature and I keep hitting it by mistake.

I am creating meshes for UDK in sketchup and I tend to keep lots of face detail, so tris. But every so often Sketchup will seemigly smooth a mesh removing most of the lines I have created. I usually undo this smooth action but sometimes its happened when I haven't realised and I save then have to either fix the object or export and OBJ and reimport then retexture it.

I am fed up with this now, I am wasting hours now the meshes are quite complicated.

      Suggestions?

      Thanks.

    • Snap selected vertex to a height

      Hi all,

I studied 3Ds Max back in the day and played around with it a fair bit afterwards but I am trying out Sketchup and porting it to the UDK. Its very powerful but I am really missing some stuff that Max does and I wish there was a multi viewport mode. It would make things about 100 times more easier.I mean even the UDK has the option.

Anyway because of this I now have some Vertex's that are slightly off by a few millimetres across the 'roof' of an object. I have used the Tape measure tool and found that at least one is at the height I originally set on the blue axis. Now is there any way I can now do a multi select on these top Vertexs and have them snap to the same height?

All in all for free Sketchup does the job, maybe though someone can point me to some plugins that would help. Certainly I cannot complain too much when Max is a couple thousand for the same sort of stuff. Sure it has rendering built in and animation (although that's worse than Mayas) But seriously cost is not worth it.
