"How to get the final decision maker on the phone". Excellent read. I'm trying to apply it right now.

RE: Maxwell for SU VS Twilight
There's two BSD modes:
Progressive BSD (progressive) and Adaptive BSD (bucket rendering).I guess it must be Progressive BSD, right?

RE: Maxwell for SU VS Twilight
Pete, there are two basic types of biased settings in Thea...
-Bucket rendering, which finishes one square at a time and has a well defined "completion" point (Works similar to Vray and Mental Ray)
Examples in Thea:
Adaptive BSD
Photon Mapping
Final Gather-Progressive rendering, which you can stop anytime when satisfied (Works similar to unbiased modes, but is "biased" instead of "unbiased"... Can't tell the difference by just looking at the result.)
Examples in Thea:
Progressive BSD, which for me looks like a biased version of TR1
Adaptive (AMC), which seems to be a biased version of TR2All these five biased modes are present in Thea. Which ones did you use for the test?

RE: My first posted image! Pub interior
Demo? I bought a license.
I even used it for some production work, but finally found it too frustrating. What exporter do you use from SU?
As you say, Path Tracing is not as fast as the default DL+AO... Also, it's prone to fireflies. Still, I found Octane's PT to be way faster than the one found in other software. MLT was supposed to remedy the fireflies, but it hasn't been released yet, right?

RE: My first posted image! Pub interior
Octane is blazing fast, but I got bored trying to understand it. Did you follow any tutorials?

RE: Codec incompatible with video size selected? ERROR
I also consider it must be a bug. I have never seen anything like that before.
I guess you'll have to manually export each image.

RE: Cinebox: CryEngine for movie making and (I hope) archviz
We'll soon find out. It's geared towards a mid-2012 release.
Today, the product manager is going to talk about it in FMX 2012:

RE: What's the best alternative to Adobe Acrobat
PDF Printer: CutePDF.
PDF compiler: PDF SAM.
PDF Reader: Foxit. You can also get PDF output directly, without anything else, from OpenOffice, Inkscape, DraftSight, Google Chrome and more.

RE: Codec incompatible with video size selected? ERROR
Could you please post a screenshot?

RE: Codec incompatible with video size selected? ERROR
Most video codecs require you to stick with dimensions that are either divisible by either 2, 4, or 8.
Use 1280x720 or 1920x1080, they should work with any codec. -
RE: Lumion Pro now US$3,900... Bait and Switch, anyone?
Yes, and some friends use it, but only for hobby projects, since it can not be used for commercial stuff.

RE: Lumion Pro now US$3,900... Bait and Switch, anyone?
Competition. What this needs is competition.
Unfortunately, Twinmotion 2, "the render killer" was killed by Lumion's early low price. You can even see the tumbleweeds in Twinmotion's forum.
Today Lumion is more expensive than Twinmotion 2, and thanks to all the early support gained through the initial low price, Lumion has been developed a lot more. Now I understand the Lumion team were actually practicing dumping, a dishonest pricing policy:

Nice modeling. You could try to find a background with more resolution.

Lumion Pro now US$3,900... Bait and Switch, anyone?
bait and switch
"a sales tactic in which a customer is attracted by the advertisement of a low-priced item but is then encouraged to buy a higher-priced one"
-Merriam-Webster dictionaryThe original Lumion back in Nov 2010 was 750€. Then, "Lumion Ultimate" appeared in June 2011, going for 1,500€.
The price of Lumion Pro was announced today: 3,000€. At today's rate, that's US$3,900.
Even though "Ultimate" users were promised to always have everything, they're also eliminating "Ultimate" from the product line, leaving only "Lumion" and "Lumion Pro", so when Version 3.0 comes later this year, current Ultimate users will have to make a choice.
How did they come with such a price? Oh, they followed a very scientific method... They carefully crafted a poll with lots of different options and run it through a huge sample of... 11 beta testers. Of them, only 7 (63%) voted for the option. The other options are written in a suspiciously confusing way.
BTW, Lumion is actually a specialized version of Quest3D, which goes for 10,000 €, so the sky is the limit for pricing future Lumion top versions.

RE: What's hot for contest prizes?
Giving a physical prize makes it difficult for non-US residents to receive it without paying import fees (and you paying shipping fees). So may I suggest an Amazon gift card, or maybe just good old cash via PayPal.
-
RE: Lumion users: A heads up about big changes in licenses
Yes, but it is very limited and stamps a logo in all your renders.
At this point I would say to anyone considering Lumion: "Run away while you can". Unfortunately I've become too dependent on it. I must find an alternative even if it's not as easy to use... possibly Unity.
