    • RE: Smoothing in sketchup

      Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. At the minute I'm just importing the SketchUp file into 3ds Max, however what I want to be able to do is export fairly simple models from SketchUp in .ase format. Even importing into Max and apply a smooth modifier I'm still getting the odd crease and wrinkle.

I have artisan sat in my tool box...I have to admit I never thought about using it...I will give it a try.

    • RE: DONT go to the doctor!

I visited the doctor to sort out a slipped disc.
"There's this little operation you need to remove two discs" he says "I've known footballers have this operation and two weeks later they are back playing professionally" he continues.

I had the operation, I also had a stroke. Five months later I'm back in the doctors surgery.
"I've got a bone to pick with you!" says I, now with a severe limp, dodgy hand, sagging face and slurring worse than a tart on a drinking binge.
"What's that?" asks the doc looking nervous and putting a chair between us.
"You said I would be playing professional football in two weeks, Arsenal haven't rung me at all!"

The doc looked vacant and wrote me a script for anti depressants. That was ten years ago, and fourteen strokes and three heart attacks later...I'm still not playing professional football!

    • Smoothing in sketchup

      Hi guys,

I mostly use SketchUp to make models and sets for my animations, Yet whenever I import a model into my software from sketchUp I get creases and odd triangles all over the place. Now I believe this to be smoothing related, as if I import the model into 3ds max and apply smoothing most disappear. However I wondering if there is a method of sorting out the smoothing groups in SketchUp itself?

      Thanks in anticipation Tim

    • Start with a THANK YOU

Just introducing myself and starting with a thank you to Gaieus for spending the time to get me 'logged on', which should give you an idea of my level of competence. ๐Ÿ˜’

I started using SketchUp to create props for animations, so most of my projects tend to be sets for various scenes. Currently trying to find the most efficient method of getting props created in SketchUp into Muvizu (my animation package of choice)without having to resort to 3ds Max (which I know virtually nothing about) or Blender (which confuses the hell out of me)along the way. So far so good, just slight problems with smoothing groups and textures and ambient occlusion and and and and...

It used to be a case where upon starting a new animation project I would start looking for props to buy...now my first action is to open up SketchUp, after several hours of blissful modelling remember I had intended to make a film!

      Best regards
      Tim
