    • RE: [Plugin] Boolean--OSCoolean (Dec 2013) for SU 8 up free ver

I've extracted the files to the plugins folder but cant seem to find it anywhere in Sketchup. Any ideas? Have just updated to the latest free version of Sketchup 8.

Update, sorry just scrolled back through a few pages and found the solution. View/Toolbar and you can enable it there.

You're better off with Photoshop to be honest. Manga Studio is primarily a black and white platform it can do colour but in a much more limited way than PS. Cool stuff on your site btw.

Manga Studio is brilliant for comics. You can really tell that it's been designed for them from the ground up. It has tools for specifically for panelling up pages, letratone patterns, a whole section for lettering, special filters for speedlines I could go on. One of my favourites is the perspective ruler you can setup anchor points for one, two or three point perspective and get your tools to lock to them. Also, even though I still do most of my inking by hand, I think it's got the best inking tools of any digital program out there.

Thanks Liam. Love your models, really inspiring me as to what is possible in sketchup.

I've got the 12 inch Cintiq. I really like it though it's not quite the jump in quality from the intuos you might expect. You lose a bit of accuracy especially round the edges. It is great for drawing on though. I used to use the Intuos(I had and A4 Intuos 3) for colouring and it was brilliant I could never quite draw with it though. On the Cintiq drawing is much easier I tend to do most of my rough work on it using Manga Studio. I still prefer to do my finished work by hand.

Oops , sorry Liam just realised this seems more like a section for your stuff thought it was just a place for sci fi models. Do you want me to move it?

Still a bit of a sketchup newbie but here are some of the sets I'm building for my next comic.

Found a couple of great Sketchup users on Deviant Art,

Some of the drawings on Karanak's website veer towards NSFW, just to warn you.

    • RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

      Hi all,

Really glad I found this place. My name's Dylan I'm a freelance illustrator mainly working in comics. I've worked for 2000ad and am currently working on a French graphic novel for delcourt.

I got into sketchup because of its ease of use(being free helped a lot too!) compared with other 3d progs. I assumed it would only be good for very basic modelling and felt it was quite limited. The more I get into it though I'm finding out what a great program it really is and the part I thought was limited was actually me!!

My aim is to build detailed sets for my comic, to free me up in terms of layout. At the moment I still feel pretty limited in my skills but am hoping to improve with practice and help from sites like this.

I keep a blog here http://www.dylansdrawingboard.blogspot.com/ mainly sketchbook stuff but I'll stick up my models soon.

These are all great, any chance you could post more straight from Sketchup? I'd get more of an idea about how to go about creating more realistic stuff then.
Are there any decent free rendering plugins?
