    • RE: Cutting away from section plane

      hi!

      thanks for all the replies

i'll look into these tutorials to render section cuts - i think that's the route to go

the 'create group from slice' option doesn't really work - the lines it creates aren't part of the actual model. if you click on one and hit delete it erases the actual model, not just the part that's cut. hiding the section cut works, but i'd like to have something that's completely cut/erased.

i have a second question - how do i play around with the styles of the section cut? if i put a section cut on a model, it outlines it in thick black. is there a way to reduce the line width, or hide this altogether? i checked in the styles menu, but it seems to only be for the model itself.

      thanks again!

      thanks for this!

sorry about all the questions, but is there also an easy way to generate a floor plan from a model? or is making a section cut & cutting away still the best way

    • Cutting away from section plane

      hi!

if i apply a section plane to a drawing and cut away like 40% of the drawing, is there an easy way to 'slice' off everything that the section plane has removed?

right now i basically use the pen tool or whatever to draw lines along the section plane, remove the plane, and then manually delete everything

      thanks!

oh, one other question - is there a good resource for getting background images for sketchup rendering? (ie skies/fields, stuff like that?)

      FYI

Adamo Gumowski from Stuttio Workshop (responsible for the first image I posted) replied, saying that the models were created with Sketchup and Rhino, and then rendered with VRAY products from ASGVIS.

      Good to know!

      hi!

what kind of line style are you using? it looks like sketchy edges, but i'm not sure which one (if any)

      thanks!

      thanks for the tips, ecuadorian!

regarding the modelling above, halil dolan from paravant architects wrote me back already and said that the renderings are done in rhinozeros with aditional editing done afterwards.

hopefully some people find this useful!

      Hi ecuadorian!

Thanks for the info - I've sent off some emails. From the second link you posted, it looks like the third image comes from the same group.

This is definitely sketchup, though, right? I'm hoping some people with good eyes might be able to quickly guess what software is being used.

By the way, on an unrelated note, I'll be in Ecuador in a few months - any suggestions on what to see (other than the Galapagos)?

      Thanks again!

    • Making models more photorealistic

      hi

i usually see pictures of sketchup models that look like this:

      http://blog.michellekaufmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/root-breathe-endure.jpg

      http://blog.michellekaufmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/passive-house-hib.jpg

      http://blog.michellekaufmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/passive-house-tib-2.jpg

are these done entirely in sketchup? or are they imported into another program like photoshop or something. or do they rely on renditioner plugins?

i'm curious, i want to get my designs looking this neat and attractive.

      thanks!
