Looks great, tonyc. I wonder about having all those exterior lights on in a daytime rendering, and if they would appear so bright with so much ambient sunlight, though.

      Fantastic work.
Those renderings look like photos of intricate models.

Nice rendering, and nice method of signing it.

That's great that they want to display your work. I hang up some of mine in our office without asking. πŸ˜†
I once did a "quick" design study model, didn't look anywhere near as nice as yours. Next thing I knew, it was plastered on a few billboards across town. It just proves that the average joe is not as critical of our renderings as we are. But I still cringed when I drove pass them.

    • RE: Monochrome Floor Plans

"plans and sections must always show at least a door and a window for every room even if there is no window or door in the point of the cut."

That's news to me. In all my years (decades, now) of architectural drawing, I've never heard that rule. I've never drawn a section through something that the section line didn't pass through; Doing otherwise would be confusing. I have, however, jogged the section line. Unless unavoidable, I tend to miss on purpose interior doors - I'll have separate door type and door detail drawings anyway. At the right scale and the right amount of detail, sections can be very real (well, as real as a drawing can be). If a person models something complete enough to derive their section from it, more power to 'em; why recreate something twice? Any way someone can save time and effort by incorporating SU into their work flow is a plus.

You got some right purdy rendrins there, mister.

I think all bosses should go through a modeling and rendering exercise at least once. Maybe then they wouldn't request changes in a day.

      Fantastic work, Herr Christiansen.
Not a fan of the blurry figures on these images. Maybe 'cause they don't match the others (style-wise) and they keep drawing my attention.

What do I think? I think they look great. If you angled the shadows, say at 45 degress, and lightened them some, I might even say they look fantastic. πŸ˜‰

The really outstanding feature of Vue, IMHO, are the realistic plants. You can say good bye to identical, cookie cutter vegetation. You can have one species of tree - no matter how many times you add it to your scene, Vue's Ecosystem technology will make each instance unique from the others. And you can edit them individually if you're looking for a particular shape.

No, I do mean Vue xStream... I use the PLE with Sketchup when I have something fun to throw in. You just need the importer/exporter that I linked in my rather long post. it works incredibly well with sketchup. it's just a few minutes in the program to get things like this...

Vue xStream is the same as Vue Infinite, with the exception of the plugin that allows it to work with the programs I listed above, and it is $400 more.

Indeed. I'm guessing it was used as an observation tower / sniper tower during WW2. Blowing up tall buildings was common because of this

It's a Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, which were observation towers built across Germany as monuments to Kaisers Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II. I'm guessing, by how elaborate they were, that monument was the primary purpose, though. There are 14 towers still in good shape (4 have been renamed, such as the Grunewaldturm), and three in disrepair. Others, like this one, have disappeared.

      Fantastic work!

It appears the brick structure forming the top of the arch is modeled as a separate group or component, as evidenced by the lines at the side and in the center of the arch - hide these edges to eliminate the lines so they appear continuous with adjacent faces.

Your brick texture is exhibiting the dreaded moire effect. Try exporting the image at as high a size as your computer will allow, and then reducing the image. That sometimes helps.

Kris, I think you mean Vue Infinite. Vue xStream is for integration with 3ds Max, Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, and Softimage. Vue Infinite is the stand alone version, and costs $400 less.
