Actually, glad you pointed that out Mike.
I've been thinking about "Design" recently, and in terms of the criteria that determined the design of this "object", designed for public spaces, I bet that was high on the list.
If you have ever tried to find a concise definition of "Design", you may notice it is a difficult concept to pin down.
Here's an example:
design (verb), as a discipline: plan the creation of a product or service with the intention of improving human experience with respect to a specified problem.
Does creating a cake fit?
So here is another example:(Headvert-by Chijoff and co)

Obviously created to advertise.
(in the companies own words it has)
Measurable Effectiveness
It also has an interactive component as you pop up the hat
Totally mobile branding
It's recyclable.
Qr Codes for Social media engagement
Sun protection for outdoor events
As such it fits the above definition.....
But....I'll leave it there.

I mean, what's not to like. Very public, sturdy, sensual, beautifully contrasted materials, and above all kept simple.

Well I don't think there is anything more fascinating than projects that require you to push boundaries and invent new processes. This one must really be satisfying.
I worked with Hydroflouric for many years, and remember being told by an old glass master whom I very much admired that all of his contemporaries that had worked the acid baths in Germany where he had trained had passed in one way or another from their work with it.
And yes,glass is interesting in its relationship to other materials and its environment in terms of Coefficient of lineal expansion. I can see how a block of glass the size you are working with would be a head scratcher.
Please keep us updated as you go forward.

Have done lots of glasswork, but this is definitely a masterwork!
Couple of questions...
How are you actually attaining the contours?
I know you mentioned acid shading, are you using hydroflouric acid?
Are you laminating with a UV glue, or a film laminate?

This is a top end example of how to extract the most important details of a project and present them in a manner that can easily be reviewed by a projects clients, planners/ bureaucrats, investors, and potential buyers.
Clean, simple, exacting, and yet composed visually,in a way that makes the concepts simple to grasp.
Makes it easy to overlook the mastery it takes to accomplish what you have here.

Great work.
Would love to see the final document with the "ipso facto" replaced, particularly to see the sheet discussing volumes, view corridors and prevailing winds.

Having taken a course by a Canadian Bee expert Ted Leischner, in which he stressed that what we need to do is recognize the wild bee populations, and plant appropriate food sources for the specific times in which they are harvesting their food, I'm a Bee-liever.
He brought examples of quite a few of the wild bee species which exist where I live, and I really suggest that people have a look at the wild species in their area. This is for 2 reasons.

1. I know I have swatted many of them, mistaking them for flies. Learn to identify them. The leaf cutters, the ground dwellers, the too many to name.
2. By enhancing habitat, and in some cases (like Mason Bees) you can promote colonies, and the benefits of this is of course pollination, which as Mike correctly points out, without which, we are... well toast.
   Ted believes that wild bees are the future, because of the perfect storm that is so hard on honey bees. Don't give up on honey bees by any means, but learn about your wild bees.
   There are nearly 500 varieties of wild bees in BC Canada where I live.
   Have a look/see at your habitat. Learn to see, and appreciate them, and like me, quit flattening them with the newspaper.

Yes indeed Dale, it really would be an interesting challenge but for what type of structure? I would be thinking along the lines of a garden studio / office that could also act as occasional guest accommodate.

It would be interesting to hear other ideas and then decide on something. If we can get this far I will rustle up some competition prizes.
