      Hi guys,

It has been a while since I posted here, but I thought that I would show off my 2010 demo reel. Anything that is not an office furniture rendering was created in sketchup and then rendered in 3ds Max. The project with the girl in the foreground was wonderful. The interior designer identified accessories from the 3D warehouse and sent me the links. All I needed to do was import them into studio max, tweek the materials and add lighting. Highrise exteriors were created in sketchup using google earth and some buildings for 3D warehouse.

    • RE: Animation Walkthru....What to use?

The built in animation output is fine. You can also use the ASGVIS vray plugin for the best quality animation available from SU. Look at getting Whaat's smooth animation ruby script from this forum.

    • RE: Open GL and the Display of Lines

It is too bad that we can't snap to end and mid points with just faces showing. This on its own with display of lines not connected to mesh, could be a mode that would be very Open GL friendly.

Try turning all your lines options off in SU and check out the speed increase. I have noticed that in Autocad Max and also in Acrobat 3D that showing hidden lines slows things way down, yet this is a main feature of SU. Try working with hidden lines turned on in these programs, and watch em crawl. It seems to me that in comparison to this sketchup is not too bad for speed.

Xray with lines also seems faster than default shade mode and is comparable to other modeling speeds. Drawing in only wireframe is quite speedy, but editing faces with pushpull and so forth are not possible unless selection is made before entering into this mode.

Perhaps all that we need to speed things up, is more display flexability, and the ablility to edit and see lines lines or polygons in these modes.

      I see a plugin coming...

      Anyone???

      Wow!

Great resource. I have been looking for free hi res people for a while now and only found just a few.

    • RE: Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?

I am guessing that many of us on this thread have access to much more intensive modeling/rendering packages such as 3DSMax. Why are we waiting for Sketchup 7?

If you are like me, you have found that 3DSMax is not as fun to use. I'm not sure why, but it could be that its 1300 plus commands with endless options tend to twart the creative process. It is also near impossible to model accurately without the aid of AutoCad. $10,000 later I think that SU is a very nice breath of fresh air.

I have a great renderer, but just wish that I could build and export large scenes and get the same basic UV mapping capabilities as in the more expensive packages.

    • RE: SU/Maxwell Landscape

The tree is the default Google high poly tree, with a sweet grass texture from the MXL library.

I adjusted the levels on the image, as it was showing up very dark.

Here is a quick scene I made up to test the new instancing and proxy features for the maxwell plugin. I only used about 6 different components for this scene and with the help of compospray, I was able to create this lakeside forest.

Here is a colour adjusted version. My work monitor shows it very bright.

Amazing modeling work for any 3D program. Sketchup will get the respect of Maxwell users yet.

      Keep posting Leo.

You have convinced me that you can now do anything. Have you ever considered creating an exporter for Yafray? It also is xml based, and I feel that it is the best free biased renderer out there. I would say that it competes with the quality of Vray, without displacement.

      David,

I was impressed with the practicality and usability of the Indigo exporter, but Subdivide and Smooth really corners the market! I use this method in Studio Max all the time for character modeling, and I can't wait to try it in SU.

Google needs to hire you full time with a huge salary!
