Well Blah11, you're certainly better than I! Keep up the good work.

RE: .quick rough photo overlay.
Cool!
In the art world, an overlay of this type is sometimes called an "onion skin." It refers to the type of durable, semi transparent paper used for just such purposes. The concept and technique is also used is some design programs as well.

RE: Sketch objects and furnitures
Very nice! I think furniture will be my next exercise.

Park Pavilion - Finished
This is an open air park pavilion. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but I'm learning more than I ever have.
I had to give up on the boat design for now and concentrate on the fundamentals.
When finished, it will have all the remaining park stuff, like benches, paths, trash cans, etc. I'm looking forward to the final. For now, there is still a LOT more structure detail left to be done. (you may have noticed ) I was getting so excited I just had to post.
At the moment, I can't decide on the finished roof. Metal? Shingle? Wood lap? Suggestions welcome.

RE: Galaxy Class Starship
Wow!
Funny thing though. When I clicked for the larger picture, I automatically pressed the scroll wheel on my mouse so I could fly around.
As you can guess, that didn't work too well.

RE: Wrenches
Good job on the wrenches and the billboard. Good photo of your son.
Yeah, I'd look twice at that billboard. Turned out great! Glad the client liked it as well. Smart client.

RE: Ahoy Sailing Experts!
Thanks for the modeling tip. Makes sense.
Yeah, I want to finish the boat. The complex curve and details are challenging. I figure if I can do that, then I'll be over the learning "hump." (not that I ever quit learning)

SU 7 Free ver
I just download, but have not yet installed SU 7 (Free ver).
My concern is my hardware. SU 6 runs, but my models cannot be too complicated, though I'm learning better, cleaner modeling.
Is SU 7 a bigger resource user? Are there any current bugs with XP?

RE: Ahoy Sailing Experts!
At this point, I'm rethinking the technique for the hull.
I also have some other constraints. Time is one. Not having a powerful enough PC is another. So all my projects for the time being are going to be simple or not at all.
The plus side is that I'm finding SU powerful and easy to learn and use. I just whipped out a visual "note" to myself on a new invention. Which is exactly what I want to use it for.
But I will complete the boat.

RE: Ahoy Sailing Experts!
Thanks again Dave. I researched those terms. Definitely a big help.

RE: Ahoy Sailing Experts!
Thanks. Now I have to go look up those words.
But honestly, thanks. I like researching and being pointed in the right direction is always a big help.
Anyone else?

Ahoy Sailing Experts!
After stumbling across a discussion on creating boat hulls, I decided to fool around and see what I could do as a way to learn the more complex aspects of SketchUp's curving abilities.
What I hope is that someone who is a sailing expert (I'm not) can give me an idea of what is the correct boat type for/of this hull? Sail? Motor? Dinghy? Please ignore the current superstructure and overall scale/proprotions. That was just more fooling around.
I really would like to complete this model, but I would also like it to be the "appropriate" design.
Thanks!

RE: Drafting Table Project
Very nice.
Funny thing, though, my jaw about bounced off the floor when I saw it. That looks like the drafting tables we had in high school!
You brought back some fun memories.

RE: Curvy Green Roof Architecture Vocabulary
As usual, you are really on to something here.

WIP - Fusion Spaceship
New project for fun.
This spaceship is designed for inner solar system transport.
Gonna take a while to finish.
