    • Windows 10 Certain plugins make SU DISAPPEAR

      Upgraded to windows 10 Pro
SU 2016 PRO (But same results with 2015 PRO)

I use a plugin called engineering toolbox. As soon as I open the extension there is a flicker and SU is GONE. No bugsplat. Nothing. just gone.

So I removed all of the plugins from the plugin folder. I went to the extension warehouse, browsed to the Engineering toolbox plugin in the warehouse and just going to the warehouse page for Engineering toolbox, in the extension warehouse, made SU disappear again.

So I tried other plugins pages in the warehouse. some came up fine and some cause Sketchup to just blink off. Skeng causes it to blink off too. As do others.

I reinstalled Sketchup 2015 and have the same results with it.

So what can be causing this behavior?

      Any tips? Thoughts? Solutions?

      thank you for your time.

      SOLUTION

You guys can hammer out what change could be made to fix this issue but I got a reply from the folks at engineering toolbox.

When you click insert and nothing happens you can fix it by refreshing the page.

Right click in the page and select "refresh".

After that the insert will work.

Maybe this can be added to the plugin somehow?

But anyhow this gets us back to work.

Thank you everyone for your time!!

When I try to "insert" and it refuses to insert I hit F5 right then, and then click "insert" again and it seems to work. It was weird. It seemed like it would do OK until I tried to insert a flange from the site. After a Flange was attempted it would quit working. At least that is how it seemed to me.

My advice would be try the F5 then click "Insert" again.

Thanks for your effort sir. You have gone above and beyond.
I have removed SU2014 its installation was an experiment.
I have removed the plugin and installed it with your modifications.
I open Ruby Console and then try the plug in.
Ruby Console shows nothing and plug in still refuses to "Insert"

I have meetings all morning. So I am going to let the IT guys continue at it from the aspect of javascript command being blocked..

Very Frustrated but thanks again for everything.

Yes it is something in the drawing causing the issue but why after it causes the issue does the plugin refuse to work in ANY SU drawing? no amount of shutting down or opening blank drawings will make it work after it fails in that drawing.
And Ruby sits there quiet as can be.

gotta be something blocking the javascript command from getting out. I dunno. Maybe I'm crazy.

sorry, I loaded his model, and ran the plugin and it would notinsert the selected item at my preselected location...
I tried some basic objects with 'Outliner' open, and found them 'inserted' at a position ocupied by a locked maker, after deleting that, I could insert the item in my chosen position...

having said that, I get 60 > 80 js errors

Blocked a frame with origin "http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net" from accessing a frame with origin "http://sketchup.engineeringtoolbox.com". Protocols, domains, and ports must match.

for every item I navigate to...

      john

The locked marker is created by the point gadget plugin which imports points via CSV. That plugin is made by Chris Dizon from Trimble. The marker is at the original Origin of 0,0,0 which is the default location for inserted objects using the Engineering toolbox plugin.

If you have an object selected the tool box plugin normally inserts at that location and orienatation.

The axes you see in that model was moved to match the straight line that was generated by the shots from the Trimble Total Station I use at work.

I got the plugin from http://sketchup.engineeringtoolbox.com/ I've been using it for nearly two years.

      Thanks!

But do you get any messages in the console when you try to run the operation with the plugin and it doesn't work?

Why are you switching back and forth between SU2015 and SU2014?

I only switched to SU2014, as an experiment, to see if it (the plugin) would work in 2014. Which it did. Until I loaded that model. Now it will no longer work in 2014. Even when I start SU to a blank default template

No I do not get any messages in the Ruby Window when I run the plugin. or at any time while the plugin is being asked to Insert an object but doesn't.

I am sorry if I am missing something basic. I have been using this for a long time and now something has gone haywire.

Thank you for your time. I REALLY appreciate it.

No matter what you have selected as your default browser, SketchUp and any plugins using web dialogs only uses IE. There should be no need to uninstall/reinstall SU because a plugin stops working.

When the plugin does stop working, open the Ruby Console (Window menu) and try activating the plugin. Do you get any messages in the console? If so, copy and paste them here.

The plugin doesn't technically STOP working it just doesn't do a function that it should. I browse all the way to my desired object that I want to insert and when I click on "Insert" nothing Inserts.

I am not Ruby savy so I am not sure what to do with the empty consol.

But I have done another experiment and I find it bizzare but maybe this will help....

      I install SU2014 Pro.
I install the Engineering Toolbox Plugin
I can insert items from the plugin no problem.
I go back into my SU2015 and save my job in a SU2014 format.
I open my job in SU2014.
      The plugin refuses to work.
I close SU and restart the program to just a blank template.
      The plugin doesn't work.
now no matter what I do it will no longer work in SU2014 which was fine until I loaded my SU job.

It's like my simple little job file does something to SU that kills its ability to work with the plugin.

Yes, you are correct javascript, not java.
      3d warehouse models load fine.
I wasn't aware that java and javascript are unrelated, I get my exercise jumping to conclusions.
The "insert" is a javascript function. A right click and properties shows the script.

Yeah I thought it may be an IE problem too.
I tried switching default browsers. Didn't Work
I cleared all of IE cache (At least I think I did) Didn't Work
I deleted the latest Java Update. Didn't Work

I would like someone who knows what is going on with the plug in to give me some information.
Is the plugin actually using my browser?
When I hit "Insert" it looks like a Java command. Is that correct?
When I scroll down on the plugin page I see the other "Insert" where you can put an IRL location in. Nothing works there either.
It's weird because I haven't installed anything new when it stopped working.
I have no idea what variable would make it stop working.
It's killing my ability to work though.

      Here we go again...

Today I was using SU and my Engineering toolbox began to refuse to insert, again.

      I went through same steps...
      Uninstall SU
      Delete plug ins folder
REinstall SU, reinstall Engineering Tool Box.

      Still won't work.
Now no matter what I try I just can't get it to insert an object. It does everything like it is supposed to it just won't insert the object.

      Any thoughts?

      Not sure what it was.
      Not sure what fixed it.
But I went with the radical when the logical wasn't working.
      I deleted my plugins folder.
      I uninstalled SU
      Re installed SU.
Installed the plug ins one at a time
Installed the Engineering Toolbox plug in and it worked.
After each plug in was installed, after that, I checked and it still worked.

Like I said, not sure what it was but it's fixed now.

I hope someone can help me.

      SU 2015Pro
      Windows 7

Today my engineering toolbox stopped working. I click the plugin under extensions. everything seems normal. I browse to the specific item I want to load into my model, I click "Insert" and nothing happens.

I deleted the plugin and re-installed it. No help
I re-installed the latest JAVA No Help
Multiple shut downs of the PC and SU No Help

If it makes a difference I can load models from the warehouse with no problems.

Odd thing, I downloaded the latest Engineering Toolbox which on their site says version 1.0.1 but in SU it says the version is 1.0.0. Maybe that's not a big deal but it seems odd.

If anyone has any ideas please help!

      thank you.

    • Sketchup 2015 Jagged Lines or is it me?

everything I draw in SU2015 looks jagged to me. My models in SU8 or 2014 pro were "smoother". I am using the same style that I used in 2014 but the lines just don't look 'right'. No matter how much I zoom in or out the edges are always broken up and not one continuous line.

I have changed the openGL settings but no luck.

      What am I doing wrong?

    • RE: Help Aligning Objects to different Axes

Thank you all for your input.

Wo3Dan aligning a group with the Current axes is what I am ultimately trying to get. When I relocate an axis then I grab a group I want the Protractor (Axes) of that group to snap to the current axes.

It doesn't always do that and sometime it is off by so little between two axes that it isn't quickly noticeable.

But again, I thank everyone for their input.

    • RE: Help Aligning Objects to different Axes

      Ok,
So here is an example, very simplified.

When I first begin a new model I draw a rectangle and pull it up and call it "origin". That way I always can find the origin and get back to origin axes. (Plus sometimes when Engineering toolbox places fittings it places them on the origin.)

New references are created from shot points that are loaded into the model. I create the reference for these so I can go and move the axes to these new references.

The one labeled "slope" was the active axis when I created the flange from the plug in. I then moved the axes to a different reference.
I would like to be able to:
      select the object
      choose move
grab one of the rotation "+" symbols and rotate it with the protractor symbol being aligned to the new axis. I.E. 90 degrees on the protractor would be aligned with the new red green or blue.

It's not uncommon for me to have a large number of groups grouped together. I would like to rotate the parent group and all of the groups "inside" also be set to the new axis.

I am sorry I am making this more confusing.

      Thanks for your time,

      Mark

    • Help Aligning Objects to different Axes

I have a situation where my model has more than one axes.

I record information around the jobsite and load those points into a SU model. Lets say I record the points on a steel frame work and then record points on the top of a piece of pipe.

When I load those points into a SU model I make a rectangle for each "axes". I save these rectangles so I can easily switch back and forth between Axes to make drawing easier.

here is the problem. I bring in pipe fitting from the engineering toolbox plug in. Some fittings need aligned with one axes while another fitting needs aligned with a different one. I usually just move the fittings with ctrl to make copies, I want those copies to become axially aligned with my current axes and not necessarily with the axes that was in play when the group was made.

So how do I align a group with an axes.

I had thought I could set the new Axes and then just rotate the Group and it would snap to the new points at 90 deg but it doesn't.

I tried the align tool , which I had to modify to get it to work with SU2014, but I thought there may be an easier way that I was missing.

      Thank you

I'm sorry I forgot to add:

    • RE: Landscape/Terrain from shot points

I agree 25 is not many. Such is the way with RTS, unlike a scanner which records a 'cloud' of points the RTS I place the prism then record the single point. It takes much longer. If I use the TX5 scanner the point clouds are way to big and filled with data I don't need.

Most of my 'shots' are of equipment or pads for equipment to sit on but I also like to capture some amount of the surrounding grade so that there is a visual reference. A detailed grade is rarely necessary so as of now I just connect the grade shots with lines to make faces.

while this result 'works' it isn't as smooth as I would like. the Sandbox tools seem to be on the right track but when I drag a surface up to a Construction point and then go to drag a different surface it can easily move my first one off of the point. I need to play with the radius parameter. I have spent the last hour watching video instruction on sandbox.

i will try that triangulate plug in and see if it helps also.

      Thank you for your reply,

Then you might use sandbox tools or other terrain or smoothing tools you find appropriate to create a workable mesh. 25 points is not a lot to work with.

    • Landscape/Terrain from shot points

      Hello,
I am trying to find a way to create some sort of terrain from "shot" points.

I use a Trimble RTS to record various points on the grade around a site. These are not ISO-contours but more like a sampling of the grade in an area.

I import these points, via CSV point importer plug-in, into my SU but I need a way to connect or average these points into a terrain mesh. I have played with the sandbox tool but I don't know how to 'snap' it to my points and have it stay there while I manipulate the surrounding terrain.

SO imagine a SU model containing nothing but 25 point markers and wanting to terrain to those markers. Any ideas?

      Thanks!!
