    • RE: Single French Door

I was under the impression that double doors with glazed panel like the one modeled
were all called French windows, as opposed to French doors. could be wrong, but have had this impression since i was a kid, which was a real long time ago πŸ˜’

this might help, but a bit crude and assumes you know how to use array's

do have a look at the numerous tutorials located here abouts

      OK Steve

you cant use section plane, it will cut the geometry but it really only hides it so u can see the section cut, you need to be using a flat vertical plane, ( flat box larger than the piece you are trying to cut)..............

as Dave R did in his video on cutting the molding at 45 deg.......

are you exploding everything( although strictly not necessary )

I will repost the first model as i have edited it into scenes, see if that helps

      G'Day Stevie

Here i have attached another picture of the cut pipe,

I should download a screen catcher, and u would be able to see what tools and menus i am using

but don't worry you will get the hang of it,

when you use "intersect with selected" (right click after you have selected to bring up the menu)it automatically cuts the geometry for you. as you can see in the 2 examples, i used the paint bucket, top one hasn't been intersected so when i paint it, the whole pipe gets painted in the bottom one i have used intersect with selected, it only paints up to the vertical plane , 'cause it has been cut. hope this helps, don't worry about the "Jargon" it comes with practice,I had the same trouble when i started with SU and still finding it with Kerkythea πŸ˜„

Dave R has some excellent videos on u-tube, showing you how to do a lot of basic stuff, and you can see the tools and menus he is using, i learnt a lot watching these

Have attached sequence as i understand the question Deane, ok went back and re read post and have added the section cut,

here i use the intersect with selected

      1. make flat plane at 90 deg, and grp( makes moving around easier)
      2. postition were u want the cut
      3. Rotate to desired angle
      4. explode the grp
      5. select all
      6. intersect with selected and remove unwanted geometry

    • RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck

Don't know if this is feasable or even if the products are avaulable to you Susan, but here in Aussie land, a common pratice and shade solution from sticky beaks and the sun is to use shadecloth, semi transparent netting similar to flyscreen doors, although the fabric used is a more complicated and stronger version, and I am sure you and some of our designer peope could place it more aesthetically.this can be installed as a non permanent fixture, the shadecloth being attached to the posts with adjustable turnbuckle connections. anyway just a wee idea from down under

Thanks for the encouragement guys, appreciate it

      @unknownuser said:

I like your model. Must have been really challenging to make. Is it acurate? -- I mean would it work?

yes, i got the plans from the web, and it would work, accuracy all depends on the accuracy of the woodwork, i have rendered it in kerky, in this one i have added some hands

the size is a problem, have watched Gaieus' tut on reducing file size, but did this as an actual model as if i was making it in wood, although using the array's made cutting the gears a lot easier than it would be in wood. I did make a second model of it with sizes that were accurate to the plans (i.e 146.7mm on one of the 60 tooth gears, after i found out how to change the accuracy in SU)

Ross love the pic shows off the gears great and the detail

    • Getting started in sketchyphysics

      G'Day folks and folkess's

****edited "06/01/08 9.20pm" please ignore this, I got it sorted by deleting and reinstalling, noticed through browsing i was missing the toolbar, reinstalled and now working fine.

I have been playing with SU for a wee bit now, on and off

just down loaded the SU-SketchyPhysics plugins, must be missing something though

I have grabbed some great files from warehouse and can't get any to work

some do run the frames but nothing happens, i have watched a lot of the videos
on u-tube ect. and see some need to be started by dragging the object to get it
moving, probably why some are running frame and some are not

when i try to grab anything all i succeed in doing is move it out of alignment

I have very few plugins installed

i downloaded the 2 sketchy ones

am i missing some sort of file

      hardware i am running is

      windows xp home
      2.8ghz pentium 4
      2gb ram
      atix1300 graphics 256 mb

have learned so much in the last few days, would love to get started with
      sketchyphysics to

ps i have searched on here but can't find anything

i know my problem is a really simple thing, just no idea what it is
