Thom, awesome model of the assassins guild building. In the other thread.

there is a reference to the AG , but it was an interior scene, can't remember what book it was atm, will have a look through them to see if i can find it ( I did start referencing descriptions as i was reading them again), but haven't got back to that one yet, anyway description of the scene "

It is about the patrician when he was a pupil in the guild. he was reading a book on camouflage, and school bully takes it from him and throws it in the fire. it was the only one of it's kind, implying no one else could use it now, later in the chapter he ambushes the bully using techniques from the book"
about as much as i remember for now, I am pretty sure there is a description at the beginning of the chapter on the front of the AG building and entrance. will post again when i find or remember the title

      G'day Tom

it would be fantastic if you could join in the building of ankh morpork, i'm doing the post office atm, the mint, tower of art, any model in fact the would suit a medieval township would be welcome, if you want to be included in the 3dwh collaboration let me know , you would be most welcome.

I have edited the model and reduced the file size a lot by deleting the lettering on the front.

      some more updates

The local pub, although modeled with square sides, would love to model it all wonky like a 400yr old building would be like , but i reckon file size would treble

haven't worked on the city this week at all

reckon this could take a while to get modeled πŸ˜„

      Cool

I just finished it again for about the 5th time "music with rocks in" πŸ˜†

Death is awesome in it , joining the Klatchian foreign legion to forget was a hilarious part of the book

and finished "Eric" this week, small but funny 12yr old demonologist and Rincewind go well together....

I have a picture of "Rob Anybody", Big Man of the feegle somewhere need to post it. and I think you are right Solo could do it real justice.

Thanks for that Pete, had forgot all about clarecraft,

Pb what book was it you read of the discworld series, terry's humour is a little bit off beat i suppose but I love it, "rincewind" the wizard is bloody brilliant, a survivor if ever there was one. Nanny Ogg, Mistress weatherwax and Magrat the witches are excellent too, as are the nac mac feegle, who think if it is bigger than them , fight it and at 6" tall everything is bigger than them... 🀣

      "Soul Music" http://www.booklore.co.uk/PastReviews/PratchettTerry/SoulMusic/SoulMusicReview.htm

Misbegot Bridge ( second bridge from the south on Jacobs map) Jetty under the bridge, Lined on both sides with house's making the street rather cramped, bridge is quite high...

Mended Drum (Pub) back door looks right onto the river ankh

Hide Park consists of trees and grass

Street of Cunning Artificers: Street of tiny shops, furnaces glowed in every doorway, Clockmaker's, Armorers, carpenters, 1/3 of the shops made tools for the other shops.

      G'day Gaieus

first off thank you for your suggestions,

the screen shot is a freebie version of Gadwin Screen print.nothing to do with SU at all

I think they shared collection is the way to go , assembly as required by each individual with the parts they want, tho atm only the main model is up there, i should break it down into individual parts and start a collection.

maybe this weekend, I 'll give that a go

and I was thinking the same thing about moving this to where you suggested, please go ahead and do so

      Ash,
what I have done is build each part I'm playing with on a different SU Panel and copying to main model. If we loaded each part to 3dwh then you could go to town on detail, and copy to a plain terrain model with just the street pattern loaded, i will upload the bridge and art tower to 3dwh, but these are just prototype models to see what i need to do to get an idea where this model is going....to do what you are suggesting would probably need a game engine to load parts as you zoom in ....no idea where to even look for that kind of stuff πŸ˜•

      G'day Jacob

OK what i would suggest is that we use your modelor start a new one, maybe with the base of the city or the map and any interested party's pm for permission to collaborate on it using 2 models would be a bit confusing and as my model is only 1/2 mile across i think it is to small to use. (book hasn't arrived yet) when i get the book, hope fully we can get an idea what size ankh morpork really is.

but i will certainly upload my model to 3dwh anyway, had a look last night and couldn't see any way to get the collaboration going , maybe you can only access it through a model, will have a look.

OK uploaded model to 3dwh, http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=7c99baebbff3d148d7bda17c9108eba9

      EDIT:
If you want to collaborate on this model please pm me, and I'll add you to collaborators, please bare in mind that this is only a prototype model and is not an efficiently modeled model..it does have layers but these were created after the basic terrain was modeled, i will be trying other ways of doing it before the final model. so in short if you collaborate please group your additions so if I change or start again additions can be saved separately.

      G'day Ashy

I would welcome more involvement from people interested in this project, and it would be great if we could get the level of detail into it that Pilou links in his post.

But as this is Jacobs thread i will leave the decision to him.

maybe we could incorporate the new google feature on the warehouse by sharing the model, no idea how it works, as i have only put 2 or 3 models up there and downloaded even less.. be worth looking into, i believe Gaieus (could be wrong here) has a post on it in SU discussions (I think).

      Rob.
