thanks for that heads up! I've been avoiding 2016 as I am not ready to hassle with reinstalling all my plugins. Yet another reason...

no, you need server CPU (Xeon) for dual cpu motherboard.

Why does my Vray plugin for Google Sketchup show up as 190GB?****
(Edit)That is not normal! just noticed the GB instead of MB. Which folders are you including?(/edit), there is a whole separate rendering program that gets installed, it's not just the small piece that goes in the plugin folder. The plugin in SU works to call up the whole vray program when you start rendering.

And it seems it's even more restricted in v2016 - this from our licence e-mail, confirming same as earlier poster:
Single user licence - once your 2016 licence is authorised, your 2015 licence will not be able to be installed on any new computers (but will continue to run as an existing installation).
Seriously?!
Hmm, guess I'll have to try 2016 on a secondary computer just as a trial. Not liking the sound of the toolbars getting bigger.
Wonder if there's any limit to how long you have before "upgrading" to 2016. I'd like to wait until the plugins are generally up to speed before messing with the update.
Wow Pete, your analogy stretched around my screen several times

Titan is a waste of money. GTX 980 Ti offers the same performance for half the price.
You're right, you can get good value from the high-end nvidia cards. Main thing is CUDA seems to be what most render engines use, OpenCL is not getting much support these days (I found that out the hard way

RE: Help me build a fast pc for vray sketchup
Seems the best thing for vray currently is adding as many cpu cores as possible. With a big budget, I'd suggest getting a dual cpu motherboard (Supermicro makes most of them) and putting two Xeon E5 chips (like the 2680 v3, 12 core) on there. Graphics card doesn't matter for vray currently, and it may be a while before it is up to the same level as cpu render. If you do get a high end graphics card, better stick with nvidia Titans.

Same than above!

Did you look at the website link? Seems he has another, earlier plugin with simple point loads.

RE: Metallic flakes Car Paint
No, the flakes are not available in vfs 2.0
Some time back, one of the vray support guys shared a material that approximates the flake effect:

there's a plugin that trims overlapping GE terrain.

RE: Copied components automatically tilted to remain flat on sur
I use gluing all the time with stuff like windows. The trick is, you can copy it from one face to another and keep the "glue" behavior, but it can be kind of hit or miss. If you are snapping to an edge, most often, it will NOT glue. If you just move "by eye" from one face to another, then it does most often glue. That's the way I usually do it, and then I go back and align by moving to relative alignment points (like I have to move a window up slightly to match the previous window heat height.) If I have time, I could do a quick video.
The other thing, stuff becomes automatically a glued component if you draw it on a face then make a group out of it. No need to use component browser at all for either of my points of advice.

I guess modeling has become a business for very serious people. No time for frivolity.
wait, what's wrong with frivolity? Are you trying to encourage it by posting in an old thread?

RE: RT Render on SU 2015 not rendering. Help.
probably need to go back to default settings and update camera, environment, etc. settings. There may be a bug that once you select other than RT CPU, the vray settings get messed up.

Hello I use vray 2.00.02.
2.00.02 is not a version number. Should be something like 2.00.25774. You can find the specific build number when you go in Sketchup to Window --> Preferences and look at Extensions list and find vray for SU.

RE: RT Render on SU 2015 not rendering. Help.
only use RT CPU. At this point GPU render is not supported.

RE: Planning divorce from Windows...worth dating Linux & Ubuntu?
I know others use SU with Linux, but I could never get it to work right. Probably 'cause I have Ubuntu on an older laptop and the graphics just don't play right. Besides the black screen, SU seems to run fine in the emulated environment.

Like others say tho, most serious apps run in a Windows environment. I use ACAD, and I've tried the alternative drafting programs that are available for Linux, and blech! hated them. I'll stick with win7 and 8 like I've stuck with the XP box that I still run for my home server
Not liking all the data harvesting things I've heard about Win10. -
RE: Sketchup V-Ray Building Light Cache issue
no, not a problem with the default material per se, the issue is that any material that is pure white will render washed out. The brightest material you should have in your scene is a light gray, anything brighter will mess with the rendering calculations and give you that washed out look. You can see it in the stairs in your third render.
