      The introduction of SECTIONAL VOLUMES.
By this I mean that any closed volumetric geometry can be designated as a SECTIONAL VOLUME.
Where a SECTIONAL VOLUME intersects with other geometry everything inside the SECTIONAL VOLUME is hidden and sectional cut lines are displayed at the intersection of the SECTIONAL VOLUME and the intersecting geometry....

you are reading my mind!!! this would allow for many fantastic results, once accessible from within ruby, this could be very helpful for shaping - like now it's possible to use a section plane as a virtual push/pull but in any direction, having complex cutting geometry available, we could quickly take out parts of a building with visual feedback...

and of course you could achieve this by nesting group with individual section planes, but it's very complicated to move them planes

try converting your results to the metric system, you are probably getting sketchup internal imperial units.

sorry rick, didn't mean to make people steal your or anybody's work. but thanks to all authors leaving their script 'readable' for everyone else to learn or get inspired from.

this is the important part of smustards EULA

    • RE: Blend along Path Script?

for animated deformation: the biggest problem is already solved, we have the free form deformation plugin to deform the shape, then its only a question of interpolating the position of these control points along a path. that's the same for basic transformations like rotation and unfirm scale but even easier.
do try to code people! just look at a script that is doing something similar (like for this case: I would look at a script which does camera from path animation http://www.smustard.com/script/FlightPath or http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/EM/flightpathtool.rb) I'm certain that after a bit of tweaking you should be able to get the desired result (it' pretty much Copy/Paste operation when you have a script to build upon)

    • RE: In Development: Subdivide and Smooth

Dear whaat, have you thought about selling the code with unscrambled source as an alternative, or at least providing an API for access from within other scripts? Because kwistens' idea could be a mashup of OffsetOnSurface+creaseLikeBevelSelect+subdivide&smooth = bevelEdgeOnClick

    • RE: [Plugin] Tree generator v0.2

few more pictures (1 min job)

1.draw line (root line - pointing upwards)
      2.run l-system
3.select all top branches, run Qhull>Pointify [voronoi/convex hull script]
4.select all created construction point, run Qhull>Export points
      5.run Qhull>Convex hull
[sometimes this doesn't do a thing when running the second time, try opening command prompt, go to sketchup\plugins\qhull
and type this 'qhull.exe TI points.txt Qj o TO qhull.txt' and press enter. then run Qhull>Convex hull in sketchup again]

6.select convex hull, make it into a group, scale this group by 1.1 around center
      7.select all tree lines
8.run didiers line2cyl script (precision used is 5)

    • [Plugin] Tree generator v0.2

Because I haven't touched this for a long time, I release this for somebody to build upon and probably make it into something usable

could be used as a starting point in developing a recursive growth script of any type

      lsystem.png

ideas: the tree is not very realistic now (there have to be branchings without all branches going in different directions - the main branch should go on - gradually getting smaller)

it should be fairly easy to make UI, there are few constants in the script now (number of branchings, generations, obstacle-avoiding toggle)

another easy thing is to add thickness to the branches - someone eager to learn ruby could be able to achieve this as his first project?

    • RE: Call to our ruby masters: enhanced smoove tool

Most of the code is trivial, only soft selection would have to be coded from start since the smoove is closed-source. But I cant devote any time to this at the moment. We should spread the coders' group by not delivering on-demand. Once u start, the simplicity of ruby Api is addictive.

      v 1.12

      small update
      welds to lowest point optionally
welds to a construction point which is part of the original selection

note: still works in perspective mode only (but the switch to perspective and back is automatic)

just went through the documentation and tried few things myself - AMAZING!!!

i'm sure only releasing your scripts OOS and JPP implemented into sketchup would justify calling it a v7.0 πŸ˜„

    • RE: [Plugin] Vertex welding tool v1.2

yes, you would have to draw a 'fence' around each welding spot...
if you want to have accurate results, I suggest you wait for me to add an option to weld at a certain point (not at the average center - as it is now).

a script to weld all points within a certain treshold is very easy to code though, it should go through all points, for each of them measure the distance to every other and weld if the distance is below the treshold.
