Views, Sections, Layers, Visibility.
Hello there!
My background is furniture design, woodwork.
I love Sketchup ands its simplicity.
However - Layout could improved.
This could by a long shot - but I'll try anyway.
I like the way Solidworks deals with paper space(drawings).
The section view could be created in Layout by simply drawing a line on "Master view".
Also what is visible or not visible(parts, layers) could by controlled from Layout. Some sort of "outliner" in Layout for each view. Also Hatching could be controlled in Layout. Hatch style by layer or similar.
Also each view would have a customisable tag/description(name,scale, etc)that would be linked with view properties.
And dimensions need to stay where they where attached.
I use SKALP plugin at this moment and after changes in model those dimensions are all over the place. This the pain I'm having at the moment - going back and forward from Sketchup to layout and back again. Updating views in Sketchup, make shore Skalp is up to date - then back to layout . Then I have to find what dimensions I need replace or delete. In some projects I could have 10 + A3 pages - and errors are happening.
Thanks

RE: Simple reporting plugin - help?
Thanks for input.
This is how i do it:
All my projects are made out of components.
Panels dimensions. LenX=thickness, LenZ=Length And LenY=width.
I have 2 type of textures. Vertical and horizontal.
For example : "Oak" and "Oak_" . dash represents horizontal .
When I paint main panel with any vertical texture - it gives me correct dimensions and visually it appears fine.
I have 2 additional attributes for components.
Cut_L and Cut_W. And i have logic applied to them.Cut_L= IF material name ends with "_" then = LenY, otherwise =LenZ... and so on.
And it works. And length becomes width ONLY when I say so ( apply Horizontal texture)
And we need this. Many designers are creating designs that are nothing like traditional way of making furniture and other woodwork projects.
And this the reason why i don't use any current plugins. Out of blue Length becomes Width. No control. For MDF or similar material probably its ok (To see how much sheets would be needed). But then how our workmates in workshop would know what is width or length. Anyway ... thats my opinion. And a simple reporting plugin is needed to get this data.
Thanks for input.

Simple reporting plugin - help?
Hello everbody.
I've been using Sketchup pro for 6+ years.
I would need some of your help to create a report plugin.
I use Sketchup for woodwork projects - furniture.
I use components and nested components.
In "description" attribute I have summed up all i need for report. (part name, dim, material, etc ...)
I've been using Sketchup "generate report" function to get to that data.
But it takes so loooooooong.
And I was wondering if somebody could help me to get it work.
I was looking into ruby script - I think I would need couple of months before I get it in to my head.
Any help or info appreciated!Project is opened on PPH : http://www.peopleperhour.com/job/view?id=866115%26amp;jobview=1
Thank you.

RE: Free RAL, Farrow&Ball and Wood veneer textures.
Hi Ben!
I think they just standard zips.
I'm not a big expert in ZIP field, but they where compressed in the simplest way.
I'm a MAC user - if that makes any difference. But looks like other Windows users have no problems.
Google it! I just did and some other folks have the same problem. See what comes up! My operation system - OS X Yosemite 10.10.4.
I hope it works for you! -
RE: Free RAL, Farrow&Ball and Wood veneer textures.
Hi Dave! Yes it is possible.
But I guess You can do it yourself.
Rename them as you want and spin them in an direction you want.
Also it is handy(in my opinion) to have vertical and horizontal grain direction.
It all depends how you use materials in Sketchup.
In my dynamic components dimension output (in report ) is driven by grain direction.
It is trigered by "_" after material name.
But I'm planning to update that material collection. Just need some time ...
Thanks. -

RE: Dynamic Texture.
He got back to me!
It's very simple- I don't know how it works but it works!
Just have to create another subcomponent.
And that subcomponent "Scaler" somehow controls texture.!!!
