Hi there.
Do you have a link to download the Tools on Surface plugin? I tried on the main page but link doesn't work.
Thanks.
Hi there.
Do you have a link to download the Tools on Surface plugin? I tried on the main page but link doesn't work.
Thanks.
I have imported a 3D MXRoad civils design into SketchUp, tidied it up a bit and re-imported back to AutoCAD for a transfer to AutoDESK Navisworks as an .NWC file for clash detection by the design team.
My client is saying that the faces aren't showing up in Navisworks even though the faces appear in both SketchUp and the 3D AutoCAD design.
Anyone else had this issue?
Thanks.
Great thanks. Will check it out.
Hi
I have a major civils project on the go at the moment with plenty of tarmac and need to drape the road markings AutoCAD layer onto the 3D terrain. Unfortunately the drape doesn't drape all lines properly so I have to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning the AutoCAD layer up, then add missing lines so I can texture surfaces accordingly with white paint. Additioanally, the centre line dotted road markings created in KeyLINES does not appear when the AutoCAD layer is transported into SketchUp. It comes in as a solid line.
Is there a plugin that will help here? Should I be using another mothod in SketchUp here? When I have lots of lines, chevrons, arrows and the like, you can appreciate that this is adding days to the build and causing much constanation
Any help or advice from the forum would be great.
I've been an avid user of Lumion and appear on their Showcase Page as Chumleys Art. It's a great programme. See what I produce at https://vimeo.com/user45590453.
My issue is that as I use Lumion Version 7, to pay for another upgrade so soon is quite an expense - just below Ā£1000. Unfortunately, SketchUp 2018 models cannot be loaded into Lumion Version 7 now. I have to build in SU2018 and save a copy to the 2017 version.
Will SketchUp address the transfer issue or will I eventually be forced to go to Lumion 8? I think I'm caught between a rock and a hard place....
Got a bit of a rush job on and the follow me tool on curved surfaces doesn't appear to work even though I've seen the video tutorials.
Anyone got any ideas? All the other tools work ok but this one.
Help??
Hi Dave R & Filibis.
Changed the textures and removed the trees and the file went from 259 to 192MB.
As it was a model I built when I first started using SketchUp, I made some basic errors that's for sure following closer inspection. Some textures and model components were either too high for the resolution needed and too detailed for the final production. I think I was trying to include as much detail to provide quality to the model but in some areas was not required. Also, the terrain from the AutoCAD file was quite large and could easily have been reduced if I was building again.
Many thanks for your help on this.
Many thanks guys. All valid points. I'll give it a try, thank you very much.
I have been using SketchUp to build my models then render and animate in Lumion Pro.
My file size always seems to be rather large and even though I try to build clean and efficient models, grouping and generating components as I go, the finished model always seem to be quite a size and after the Lumion production, you can imagine, huge.
To explain, I built a model of the city centre and the Old Market Square in Nottingham for an archery event last year (see it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_cM3O2Gh7U ) and it was well over 259MB.
To compare, I received a SketchUp model from a local architects who had built another part of the city larger than mine but only 28MB in size!
On close inspection, all the new buildings for the Nottingham Trent University were built well with groups/components but the existing buildings ā and there were many ā were just lines and planes. No components and the only group was one layer for all roofs. Still, 28MB is amazing for the size of the area.
I wonder if Iām doing something wrong that is obvious to others but not me. I always āPurgeā and āFix Problemsā in my models but file size reduction is minimal. With my model, I know I added some trees and a lot of detail but still, should it be that big?Perhaps Iām going too detailed and itās just too many lines and planesā¦
Any help or advice would be welcome, thanks.
