I just did. Unfortunately I can only select one Operating System though I have both, Mac and Windows available to work with. I selected Windows as I guess this is the less limiting variant - I saw at least some extensions only available for Windows.

Site modeling for house planning
Hey guys,
we just bought a piece of land where we plan to build on in the coming year or so. I haven't messed with Sketchup a lot lately (used to use it for 3d printing design some years back) but I remembered it's great for architectural stuff. So I picked it up once again and already went through tons of youtube stuff.
I played around a bit already but I'm still trying to connect the dots. I found I can easily import a location with some height data and also a satelite image. Unfortunately that data isn't of very high resolution. Although I do have some better data. Especially for the elevation data I have some 1-meter-resolution height points from the surrounding area. The format is UTM32 coordinates each with a height in meters (referencing sea level).
Is there any good way to import this data into Sketchup?
Here's some example what this data looks like:
682338 5512754 475.80
682339 5512754 475.78
682340 5512754 475.70
682341 5512754 475.64In addition I do have a dron that you could use to create some higher resolution imagery. So I wonder if it would be possible to import that as well and line it up. Still trying to find out if there's an affordable way to also create 3d data from the drone images (most photogrammetry solutions seem to be quite pricey).
Maybe someone has done all of this already and can point some fingers to resources that might help here. I'd be greatful for any input.
Don't shoot me if this all sounds terribly stupid. Basically i'm just a soon-to-be home owner with a little bit of dreaming here

RE: Working with the boundary box
thanks for the hint - already seen that, but it looks like the rotation then is always world-aligned means i have to know how the rotation of the object is already to rotate it by - let's say - 180 deg.
Anyway thanks for the hint. solves at least a part of my problem.

Working with the boundary box
Hi,
as you know each and every object in sketchup has this boundary box around it which is by default drawn in blue (well at least here on my mac).
Is there any way to work with this boundary box instead of the objects borders? For examply i'd like to rotate this object around the center of the boundary (where those two red lines cross that i have drawn in there)
Also aligning an object like this which has no straight outer border is kind of hard - it would often be helpful if you could use this boundary box to align it somewhere.
I thought i'd ask - maybe there's a way to do this that i just missed so far...
Thanks for helping,
Frank

RE: Cylindrical modelling
THanks for your input guys. that profile/rotation thing came to my mind shortly after i posted the above and so i did it. apart from that it is interesting how to solve such issues and it's interesting to know that sketchup has issues with smaller objects. Thanks for that hint @voljanko.
Also thanks to the other for pointing out things. I'll try that out.

Cylindrical modelling
Hey all,
i'm trying to model a relatively simple cylindrical model but i'm failing to do it right.
Here's a shot of two versions of the model. The left one looks like it should look in the end, the right one is my current working version. the problem of the left one is that it's not solid and the way i did it surely isn't right. I'm trying to get better so i restarted everything but i'm running into problems.
This is a cylinder with 34mm outer diameter and a 2,5mm thick wall. It has one 1,5mm deep slot with a carved edge. I've used Joint PushPull to create that slot but then my problem is that JPP breaks the circular outline into several little lines which makes creating the carved edge a real problem. I've tried scaling down the lower ring of the carved edge but you never get it that exact and as it's still a circle and the inner ring of the pushpull section is not. That's why the object doesn't get solid then.
I hope you get my point - sorry, my english isn't that good.
Here's another picture of the whole cylinder
How would you start modelling this? Any alternative suggestion to joint push pull? I think that is basically my problem. I basically need this completely solid as it's going to be 3d printed and that only leads to problems if the model isn't perfectly solid.
I hope you can point me to the right direction.
Thanks for helping,

RE: 2D DXF export without a pro version?
I just checked the STL/DXF-Exporter from guitar-list.com once again and this time it worked for the object i now had (which is rather simple) - i will keep an eye on that. If you don't know the plugin, it's here http://www.guitar-list.com/download-software/convert-sketchup-skp-files-dxf-or-stl

I've tried that but it produces broken objects in my cases with open shapes and other stuff - even on simple objects.

2D DXF export without a pro version?
Hi,
i wonder if there's a good way to export 2D DXF files out of sketchup like it is possible with the pro version but with a (free or paid) plugin only on the free version of sketchup?
I'm drawing different stuff that i'd like to export for milling and to transfer it to the CAM software DXF would be the only useful format.
Thanks for helping.

RE: PushPull a hole with opposite wall not beeing parallel
Thanks, jgb, that's a valuable tip. I already ran into similar problems not related to intersect faces quite some time but it's highly appreciated you add that here. very important.
Thanks,
Frank
