      Excellent tutorial which applies to spoons and many other things. When you do it, it's simple.

                    Draw a sphere and use the scale tool to elongate it on one side(horizontal), then intersect the sphere with a plane placed on the horizontal direction. Place the plane as high as you would like the spoon to be, then intersect both and delete the unwanted geometry.
