This is what i like to see. But don't forget the hide all dimensions button.
When it will be available?regards Burkhard
Burkhard,
Thanks for the suggestion. As for availability we are working on it now and I will let you know.

Looks very very nice!
How much would this cost? -
¡Hi all!
Looks very nice in deed...
¡I want to know too!

Looks interesting ! I think we would really need a demo
to fully trial the functions. It crosses my mind that this might be useful in 2D SU
drawings (models) also.Mike

I would say that it certainly has some possibilities, I agree with Burkhard w.r.t. being able to hide the dimensions whenever one needs to. How will this influence data exported to rendering apps? The dimensioning will have to be something that one can choose not to export for rendering purposes, also no shadows, etc.

I'd definitely want this if it was reasonably priced. I tried Revit years ago and this was a feature I wished SketchUp had. It could be a real time saver.

yes, the hide all dims would be important or just simply put all the dims on one layer... or beter yet allow us to decide what layer and how many...
looks like a nice script when you need beta let me know...

Thanks for the compliment.
Do you have any suggestions for the functionality? For example some have suggested the ability to lock selected dimensions.
As for the cost we are not sure yet, we are just concentrating on trying to get it done and get it right.
Thanks again,
Rick

Hi Mike,
We are at the early stages of development so a demo is a little ways out. As for 2D....we orginally designed the functionality in 2D as an add-on to AutoCAD. That demo is at http://www.cadnomics.com. Sorry for my ignorance but is SU widely used for 2D?
Thanks for the comments.

I'll check out that Rick.
Yes, there are quite a few that use SketchUp for
2D work. I have been doing so for the past couple
of years. SU and Canvas via PDF import. The results
and quite good, mostly used for Design / Planning
Applications and a little construction detail. -

Kristoff,
You have hit on what seems to be a popular theme regarding the flexibility and control of the dimensions. We are working towards providing that level of control.
Thanks for the suggestion and the offer for testing (I may take you up on it).

Hi Rick,
I have my guys in the office working in Revit, I myself have resisted switching to revit since 90% of my work is design. I prefer to work with SU since I find it so quick and intutive. I know a lot of Architects use SU to quickly build components for importing into ArchiCAD or Revit during construction documentation, I see this tool being extremly helpful for me to become more involved again in production of construction documents. I look forward to its release

There seems to be an endless stream of functionality and work flow improvements to SU through scripts and add-ons. This one is a must-have, so long as it also works in SU5.
Kudos Rick.

Hi all!
¿Do you know something new about that?
It seems so interesting...

We are just completing the final touches on the scope of the functionality. We should have an idea in a week or so as to when the add-on will be availble.
Thanks for the interest.

¡¡¡GREAT!!!
mmm... a week is too much time...
Thanks for the very good news!

Rick,
Looks good, we'd be very interested in this.
........
Ideally ALL SU Dims should have this ability (to adjust / resize the model) as shown in your demo movie file.
ie ALL DIMS ARE SMART DIMS - regardless of which tool was used to create them. (either your code or native SU).
........
If some Dims are Smart (produced with your code) and some Dims are Dumb (produced with native SU) we need a QUICK VISUAL way to differentiate the two different types (eg a toggle button to highlight all the Smart Dims Red for instance), that way we know which ones can be edited to adjust the model.
.........
All previous comments regarding layers I'd agree with also.
.........
Are you planning to adopt all current SU Dim features eg ability to change font, size, hide when fore shortened etc ???Regards

I love it. But will it be possible to move these dimensions to wherever you'd like to see them? In the flash movie most dimensions stick to the surface, I'd like to move them a little away from the model, like the first two dimensions.

A brilliant extension!
Is there a functionality to move the dimensions? when I need the measure to be outside the element or in a different place than it was originally created to?
And does it support metric system? (probably a silly question )I'd very much like to use it in work - if needed, I can also beta-test...
