Help please: 64k vertices error???
-
Hello I am sort of new to Sketchup and while trying to place one of my 3d models onto Google Earth I received an error that says somethin like warning vertex array in geometry trangles:____________________ has more than 64k vertices
and my 3d model looks like this
http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leptishelppu2.jpg
Also why does my models look better when I use the "place model" preview method in Sketchup compared to using add model in google earth? and is there a way to make the "place model" preview method stay?
Thanks

Hi Chooch,
Leptis Magna, he?!
Nice choice! So could you finally upload the file to the warehouse? We should really look into the file itself.
That image surely looks weird - what are those funny triangles there? Did you model this in SU or imported? (BTW the location seems to be incorrect, too).
As for the images; when you see the kmz file from your machine, it seems to "remember" somehow the original images. When downloaded from the warehouse, the images are simplified a bit.

Thank you for the help
So do you want to look at look at the file itself? if so do you want me to upload the file of this place as a dae file? or a kmz file on warehouse?
thanks again

The warehouse would be better - dae and kmz is not allowed extensions here.

This is by now way good. I could see whatever I could see in your screenshot but the source of it is the skp file! That's what we'd need! Surely something is really screwed up in that file but how could I tell what if you don't provide the skp?
The skp is editable - how should I know what the problem is from a text file like the dae file?
(BTW great advance in the WH since I was there - you can upload bare kmz files, too? I didn't know that!)

I am so sorry
It tells me that I can only upload kmz file...this is my first tiem uploading something

Where are you uploading from? SketchUp?

I went to the 3dmodelwarehouse and signed up and tried to upload it from there -

OK here it is

Now this is curious.
I tested the thing and it seems that there is a limit how many faces within a model can be applied with the same texture?
It gave me the same result as to you: see attached image:I wonder if you'd used components instead of individual instances of the same columns (taht way the whole skp model could've been about 500-600 kb altogether) this would have also happened.
Well, I'm moving tghis topic to the Bug Reports for some experts to see.
The error message BTW is referring to triangles collada (and other 3D) files use for creating faces. A triangle is always coplanar...

really? geez just my luck...
Thanks for trying to help thought
You have been to leptis? I would love to go there but I am doing this for a school project and decided to go the extra mile and teach myself sketchup which I have found to be a really fun program
it's a pitty that alot of the picture I found of the site don't give a good view of some of the structures so I can try to model them.
-
No, I haven't been there - just learnt about it (my original profession is Roman provincial archaeology). I also use SU mainly for reconstructions - see this thread here (though that's Medieval...)
As for your model though, there seem to be a lot more columns in the original building than what you have modelled...
The SU team haven't said anything about the issue yet. I'll let you know if there is something.
-
Hi,
I have this same problem... And this post is old enough and I don't see some solution here... So
-
I have never heard anything back from the SU Team reagrding this issue. Actually, thanks for bumping it; I didn't remember where it turned up when I wanted to look into it the other day.

Well, in first time (long time ago) I had problem only with white color... When I placed model into Google Earth, not every white was white, but some gray... Few weeks ago I'm decided to rebuilt model and make it better and make another one building...
So I rebuilt whole model again and I changed every default white color to white_0128 from Colors-Named. And I was think, that everything will be alright this time. But I had this error... And when I looked on that, it's again problem only with white color (0128 from Colors-Named). And what is strange, I made two similar models and one has only that first problem, and the second has problem with this 64k error, but every parts and colors are the same in both.

In SketchUp everything looks good:

http://picasaweb.google.com/Capoeirista.Andi/SketchUpProblems#5304585433928402290I will try change that white_128 to some other white again, but I don't think it will help...

Me neither. I'll try to report it again.
-
Well, it looks I found solution I changed that white_0128 on some panels of model to another white from markers and it helps, no error in Google Earth.
So, probably Google Earth has problem, if one same color is on too many surfaces in model.

bump same issue here.
Tried using the cleanup plugin from ThomThom, thinking it may be due to the complexity of the model.
It really is not that complicated, Just some lattice work for a steel structure.Other models with similar geometry have come in without the error report.
What is this attributed to. Texture, polycount or some other miscellaneous sketch up fail.
bring on revision 9.
Bring back the old way of getting places from Google Earth. (from the Earth UI) it was easier to navigate to locations that are out bush and not
on a road.
