A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

Hi Brian and welcome (although you're not a "completely" new member)
Anyway, as you can see, there are tons of woodworkers here - even including one of our certified trainers, Dave. Have you looked at our ATC page? http://sketchucation.com/sketchucation-services/authorized-sketchup-training
Granted, it's not too "long" but we figured most of the people would not want to read "long stories". There are those tabs you can go through for some more info - or drop me a PM any time you wish to learn more details.

Hi sketchup users,
My name is Jody and I've been using sketchup for just over a year now. I'm only 13 right now, but my hopes are that someday I'll be able to become an architect (not the architects that design normal homes that people live in, the ones that design museums and huge buildings and stuff). I already have a couple of models of buildings that I've made in sketchup. I'm not an advanced user, but I'm familiar with all of sketchup's functions (components, sandbox tools, etc.) and I'm starting to get to know the usefulness of plugins.
Do you guys have any tips/pointers that could help me get a head start on my career, or if not, anything that would be helpful to know for someone like me?
I've also been looking around for a good rendering program that's free (obviously my allowance doesn't cover the 500 dollars you need for a program used by professionals...) so I can start doing some illustrations of my models and possibly submit them into contests. Thanks a lot,
Jody

Hi Jody and welcoem!
I am not an architect myself so I can only suggest "lay" things like always try to keep the end-usrs in mind and place them before your design ideas (I could not convince those practicing old farts here to change their ways of thinking but you are hopefully young enough)
Anyway, free yet powerful rendering application is Kerkythea. It has several "siblings" like Twilight that runs stratight inside SketchUp (and only $ 99 but they even have an educational version if I am not mistaken) or Thea - which a really powerful studio renderer but they can come later. Start with Kerkythea. It is not the easiest to get hold of but can produce beautiful ersults.
Then most of the other rendering apps also have trial versions so you do not need to confine yourself to a single program just because it is free.

Hello
My name is Jerry, I am a new participant in the sketchup train. Looking good so far but so many different avenues to take, where do you recomend starting. I have already pretty much mastered the basic level and I am wanting to model furniture. Shout out to the Cadfather.

Hi all
First of all I'd like to just point out my joy in the overall look and design of these forums, they are truly unique and reflect the simple nature of Sketchup.
I've just recently started using Sketchup 8 Pro for work. My aim is to do a few courses to bring me up to speed. I aim to combine my Photoshop skills with SU to add value for the comapany I am working for.
Having played around with SU over the past week I've noticed how addictive it is to use. My crazy mind mixed with this program produces all types of creations haha. Anyway hope to learn alot from you all and give back as much.
Cheers

Hello Admin
I recently purchased Interior Design Course 4 book by Adriana Grandos. Unfortunately when I was downloading it, my machine crashed. On all of the other books I downloaded, I was sent an email by Apache with a link to download the book, but I didnt get one on this. I have proof of payment should it be required.
How is best to go about resolving this issue
Many thanks
Jerry

Hi!
My name is Tim and I'm a Sketchaholic. I've only been using the program for a couple of months, beginning shortly after ordering a Replicator 2. I designed a major project ahead of it landing, which turned out to be a really bad idea...to many mistakes in the manifold. I found this forum, in fact, via a link to Manifold v2.2 by TIG.
Cheers! -
@Tboom
There are by now several newer and better tools - try SolidAlcoholic etc... -
