help with a thread
-
hi guys I've been experimenting with the helix tool for making threads with a bit of success, but I'm trying to draw a internal trapezoidal thread ( diagram 150mm, pitch 2.7 mm, depth 1.3mm , 20mm high)
could any one help with a walk through on how to do this -
I took a body filler squeeze of the thread as you can see here -
Model in meters to avoid issues with faces below 1mm. Afterwards scale it down to correct dimensions.
If you are using Helix Along Curve you are 90% there.
If you have CurviLoft you can use Loft Along Path to extrude the profiles.

unfortunately not that much success, can you do a run through of how you did that

Try sharing a file because I honestly can't make much sense of your dimensions.
A 150mm [diameter?] with a 20mm height seems wrong.

its a screw on cap, the dimensions are correct

if you look at the pictures I posted you can see the height of the thread

pitch 2.7 mm
I expect your first problem is you are measuring the pitch incorrectly. From your images it looks like the pitch is closer to 5mm.
So far you haven't told us what your actual problem is in modeling these threads. I've shown you before how to model screw threads. The process is the same with these. Start with a helix and profile. Use Upright Extruder.
The method Rich described will work fine, too.

Are you trying to model a cap or the neck of the container? What is it exactly? I've been trying to find real specifications for the threads on screw top containers but based on what little information you've provided, it's been a waste of time.
