Latest pc woes.

No slowdowns on W11 whatsoever.
@rich The rug really tied the room together -
CPU 13 gen intel i5 13600l 3.5ghz
64.0 gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
Dedicated VRAM 10240 mb
I did find out they stiffed me on the second SSD, putting an HDD in its place.
Sorry, switched my cell off at the door, the grey cell.

Gus, did all that numerous times.
Just tried another reinstall and the same result.
2022 will open new files but is still slow dealing with geometry, simple stuff like drawing a line takes several seconds.
Pain in the butt and I have new issues with render software just for giggles.
Must be tuesday somewhere.......

Nothing slow about my Windows 11 Pro desktop. In fact it's about the fastest PC I've ever used. Sure it's new hardware but the OS is just fast on it.
-
Have you tried anything like "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" from the command prompt? Windows has a tendency to self destruct from time to time. Your rig should handle SU and Artisan 2 even with Windows 11.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gus. Checked and everything is in rude health.
-
Mike,
Did you try un-installing and re-installing SU 2023?
Are you still running 2022 and how's that working?
Is this happening with a specific model or even with a template?
-
I have checked out the graphics card and all is well there, minor thing to do with reinstalling a driver.
I still cannot open a new file in 2023 without a crash of sketchup and even drawing a line is a pain. slow er amd slopw er.
I cannot clean a group or even create a group with the whole sketchup propgam freezing/unresponsive.
Any gems folks?
-
Mike,
Unrelated but I was getting constant crash to desktop with D5 Render 2.6 and it ended up being caused by "Turbo Mode" in BIOS. Once I disabled that the CTD's stopped.
What's your anti-aliasing setting in SU preferences? I set mine to 2X. It doesn't look good but it speeds up SU.
-
Checked and Sketchup fails to respond creating a group. My old pc with half the ram and a smaller card was twice as fastr at least.
-
Mike,
Something is seriously wrong. Your rig and Windows 11 should work. I can't think of much but try:
-
Windows update if you haven't already. I'm sure you did that.
-
Get the latest Microsoft Framework. Stab in the dark.
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/thank-you/net48-web-installer -
Update your BIOS to the latest.
-
Run MEM Check. That will take a long time.
-
Disable "Turbo Mode" in BIOS.
-
Run Chkdsk.
-
Get the latest firmware for any SSD's you may have.
-
-
Also check performance for your CPU and Memory in Task Manager. Right click "Start" then "Task Manager" and you'll see the options on top. Make sure everything matches your hardware.
Then check for problem devices in Device Manager.
-
Considering a browser can run SketchUp you have something preventing an installed app from functioning at its base level.
Its a puzzling behaviour too. One to get a pro to look at because its sounds like some bottle neck is occurring.
Does the behaviour happen on a vanilla SketchUp install with zero extensions active?
-
Thanks Gus,
Appreciated.
I am going to get back to the builders and give them something to think about.
Yep, did those bits you mentioned on third or fourth go round but I appreciate the suggestions.
I'll call them Monday now.

Well, I spent most of last night going over firmware and bios etc.
Shut the monster down at about 5:30 and waited for the morning proper to see what it would do.
No idea what did the job, graphics card acceleration had been reset by windoze frequently but no idea if that had a hand in the problems. Just used difusion to see what would happen and it seemed to be OK. Result in Difusion thread.
-
Still unable to open a new file in 2023. Some models that were fine on the old pc with windows 10 are impossible and slow.
Bought a windoze 11 pro key so might just chance the upgrade.

When you installed SketchUp on your new PC did you select its installer's exe file icon [in Downloads] and right-click > context-menu > Run as administrator ?
If not then ensure SketchUp/Layout are not running, and do it now, when prompted choose 'Repair'.
It will set all permissions properly.
It should not affect any installed extensions etc...
Double-clicking on an exe file to install it [i.e. Run it] is not the same as doing it properly, even if you have admin-powers.
Doing it the wrong way can result in all kinds of unpredictable and weird issues - often about file/folder permissions etc...
It won't hurt to try it... -
Always installed as admin, nevver double clicked.
Done numerous repairs too.
I know, there will always be files that are a pain in the seat but the duesnberg I rendered on my old pc (16gb REAM and 2gb Graphics card) handled the model fine and allowd for sub division of surfaces, cleanup etc. https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=73039&hilit=+dusenberg
This monster cannot even load the file cleanly.
Funnily enough the model just leaded in 2023 on the new machine and is in the process of cleaning. Only 1237 hours plus to go.
The behaviour is odd, random and entirely pile poking.

I am obviously on too mcu whoopy juice, the new file opening is 2022, NOT 2023.
Not sure how I get through to chilblast, they are vehement the pc is fine.
