Outpost spaceport
-
Finally starting to feel better as the weather is now easing up a bit. I am behind on many projects, so I decided to start another one. What can you do when the muses call?
An outpost spaceport on some far flung planet. As always, not much to look at right now. I have the full picture in my head, just need to model it.
I'll be using two of my old spaceship models. The one you see here is the very old DC-X model, now modified by scaling up and the old fusion ship I did last year. I have to make landing pads and support machinery and then set the landscape.

Rough out of the scene.
-
Looking good so far
-
-
Thanks Tuna. Thanks dave.
Blocking in the support gantries and service rails. Making other changes as I go along. The gantries will change radically in details. This is just block/mass sizing for now.
-
More roughing in. The long gantry arms are meant to just support people and small equipment, hence they can be long. They will also be more open, so lighter weight.
The blue ships will get their own set of gantries.
The final scene will have gantries in difference positions. Rail lines will continue out of scene. Greeble and misc equipment will be added last.
-
Shaping up the gantries. They're rather basic because, outpost. There will be more detail. Piping and such.
-
LOL! Nope. These are terrible. Already working on new gantry design
-
Ah. This is better. A few more logical structure refinements and this is it for the gantries.
-
Update.
-
Moving forward
-
Update. The track curves were not easy. Should have been, but weren't. Also had one crash. That was frustrating.
But the overall scene is done. On to the details.
-
Reminds me of the book by Peter F Hamilton, "The great north road". a fine render scene you have there.
-
I think NASA might like this layout.
-
Thanks mike. Thanks dave.
I hope the render scene turns out like I have in mind.
-
With your tenacity, I have zero doubt you will get there mate. https://realityfakers.net/tutorials/animate-a-rocket-launch-fire-smoke-simulation-tutorial-in-blender/

Nice animation Mike. Thanks for sharing.
You should be able to do all of that in SketchUp with Animator or MsPhysics except maybe the flames and someone may be able to find a source for the flames.

Raylectron now has some animation features. Not used it yet so not sure how extensive, but I've seen a bouncing ball with good physics and flying spaceships.
I have no plans to animate this scene. Maybe in the future. But I have to learn the animation side of what ever program I will be using. That's on my to do list, but not right away.

For this scene, the gantries are the star and the landing pad is the co-star., so I'm taking my time thinking about their design.
-
Update. Just minor adjustments as I finalize the design. More details left to make.
