      Hey!

This is my first post here. I have been working with SketchUp about 6 years- mostly on hottubes and tubesaunas. Today i find something interesting in my office and now i´m in trouble. I can´t find out how can i draw those hexagons You see on picture. They are irregular (sort off), red sides is same legth and angle (120°), green sides also same length (but not same length as red sides). Same storu with yellow sides- they have same length but not same length as other color sides. Those pieces glued into plywood as tiles and as You can see they fit perfectly side to side and top-bottom. I think i need some mathematical or geometrical knowledge to draw those pieces in SketchUp. I have Trilateration plugin so i can make perfect triangles, but how to do it so they fit as on the picture?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for my english.

      Indrek.

All internal angles must total 720d.

But if you know the lengths of each green and red edge can you get the length of the base. If you could then you can work out the angle

Then use some online tool to calculate the angles...

A hexagon is a triangle with 3 triangle attached the each edge...

There's likely a very simple solution to this but my brain is too smooth to see it yet.

Get the "Random Tools" extension either from here or using Extension Warehouse in Sketchup.

I did this flat on the ground or a top view.

Create a hexagon pattern like this.

            Random Vertex Positions B.jpg

Select all and click the second icon (Random Vertex Positions) in the Random Tools menu.

            Random-Vertex-Positions-D.jpg

Apply something like the following setting. You may have to play with it depending on the size and units of your model.

            Random Vertex Positions.jpg

            Results.

            Random Vertex Positions C.jpg

You should be able to take it from there by adding random texture positions, border elements, etc.

You can dimension them all as needed and send it to your carpenter from there.

I should mention that the hexagons are simply circles drawn with six (6) sides. If you're not familiar that's done by entering 6S (six "s" as in Sam) in the units field.

I thought the original query was that they have this irregular hexagon shape that fits together in a certain pattern?

                      I don't know. 💚

I wanted an irregular but repeatable tile recently and ended up using type 4 from here. I wanted to cut shapes from concrete waste, so I wanted a shape with not too tight angles to reduce breakage and simplify handling.

                          Hey!

Thanks for You effort. Maybe i didn´t explain myself very correctly. All those irregular hexagons in tile is exactly the same. But they fit if You take same tile and place it on the side or top. I think i have to try this 3 triangle solution mentioned here. I also find some intresting pages from internet.
