Has anybody else swithed fo D5 from TM

I was happy with TM I must say, I held great hopes for it but Twinmotion screws with my SU materials (Such as calling just about every material a "default" material and other very creative ways to perplex me. I have abandoned TM as It became useless to me. I downloaded D5 and love it's UI and just about everything else about it. I know you have had a play with it Mike, would love to hear you and others opinions on this

I tried it and didn't see anything that made it stand out. I found Enscape to be better for realtime with SketchUp integration. But it has Chaos driving its dev now so resources are not an issue.
I still think Epic have a plan for TM.
For me, I've fully embraced SketchUp to Blender workflow. Fast realtime engine and fast path tracer. Plus a really open and clear roadmap. There's just such a positive and exciting enthusiasm about Blender's direction. The hard part is getting over that initial hump of the UI and boggling amount of options.
For quick realtime in SketchUp I like LightUp. Not photorealistic but a really solid extension. Not cheap for perpetual though.

Thanks for getting back Rich. I am wondering how long ago you tried D5? the new GI and subsurface skattering is insanely good in the latest version and the D5 assets are absoluteley superior in quality and quantity. For me realtime rendering does not hold my interest any more. And yes the Ui in Blender is difficult to learn. Have you any experience with Bforartists? I am curious about that. I do not dissagree that TM has plans but they are stubbornly sticking with that convoluted UI and the logic of it is getting even more and more contrived and increasingly not fit for purpose as more features are added in my opinion.

Yes, it's intention was to make a better UI and improved usability. Where it fell short was the reassigning of keys. So anyone who learned Blenders keybinds had to unlearn them in Bforartists.
They also went icon heavy to help you learn tools quicker. It's basically a skinned Blender with more attention given to the UI. I tried it and didn't like it. But its a great option for new-to-blender designers.

Probably with the acquisition it will take time for Epic to throw resources at it. Especially when you consider they acquired Megascans, SketchFab, Reality Capture etc.. its lots of content to juggle and merge under one platform. But the potential for an ArchViz realtime solution as good as a path tracer is there.
EEVEE Next is coming too so that adds SSGI and maybe hardware based raytracing. And displacement!
No matter which app or direction you go the future is wild.

Rich, compared to sketchup is it a fact that bforartists or blender is just too much hard work (inefficient) for non organic modelling such as a house or apartment block, compared to SU. Is that why your workflow is as it is?

No, Blender has in built addons for wall, window, door creations that are fully parametric. Also a great dimensioning system you can enable. There's a great site that showcases Blender in archviz...

What it doesn't do compared to SketchUp is that loose and easy design drafting. Blender is not as approachable if you are embedded in SketchUp. But if you are open minded it is a major addition to your options for design work.
For me its mesh data no matter where I am. I can start in SketchUp to get a base model properly sized and set up. Then bring the model to Blender and use it's non-destructive modifiers to get better results.
Bake in the modifiers and go back to SketchUp or wherever. It's not too hard to get it into your workflow once you decide what it is you need it to do.
That said if design and con docs is your path to success Sketchup ticks all the boxes with just a couple of extensions in there to make life easier.
For me I just found that I reached a tipping with SketchUp. You end up asking it to do stuff it shouldn't. Blender is the toolbox I use when I need to get around that.
It is the time investment that put most off. Blender is a time vampire whereas SketchUp is nearly too intuitive and easy. SketchUp is very good at doing what it is setup for - conceptual design work.

I'm currently using both Raylectron and D5. Both have their strengths.
I have not tried many other render programs due to price.
I am currently exploring Rich's process of SU to Blender. Blender comes with two render choices built in. Cycles and EV. I cannot comment on their capability as I am still learning blender.
I've recently seen amazing, stunning renders, from TM, both here and on the Facebook group, that even I cannot tell from a photo. But I've also seen complaints such as yours and other different problems with TM as well.
I do see that all render companies continually making improvement to their output. Looks like an arms race is going on right now.
