Nvidia instant NeRF is a new program that can make 2D images into 3D renders almost instantly. Maybe photogrammetry will be a thing of the past

Generally this neural network AI syuff scares me. But that is besides the point πŸ˜‰

I saw this the other day and my first response was that we are not far away from automated model generation.

Facebook(Meta) have similar tech but not as impressive. Bit depressing to think people with a natural talent and affinity to model objects will be replaced by the camera phone.

Give it another 10 yrs and you'll see a headline that reads 'My Google Assistant helped me design my dream home based off of my pinterest board whilst I earned $20 in crypto for allowing ads on my front door'

You and I think alike Rich.
While a very useful tool, it is the beginning of the end.

I studied graphic design at diploma level and Art and Industrial design/Fine art at Degree level. Midway through my degree I first heard of"desktop Publishing" . I had the same concerns. "Why did I study graphic design" Every Tom Dick and Harry can now do graphic design. The profession is about to die. Then I saw an ad in a newspaper by some computer geeks, I assume. The main text said "Computer sale" the typeface was "ye olde english" I stopped worrying

I think what we mainly do is build things that have not been built yet and give it a heart and soul .But on further thought "DEEP FAKES" are produced by employing 2 neural networks in competition with one another, hence there must be a good deal of subjectivity involved in AI "creativity" I always thought creativity would not become a tool of AI antil about 10 minutes ago when I thought more deeply about it πŸ‘Ž πŸ‘Ž

(Edited) on further thought my first parragraph is now redundant πŸ‘

When the world is 2 GPU manufacturers making AI/ML moves its kinda creepy.

But printers didn't replace artists so we should be ok as long as we have creativity. A machine can't learn or compete spontaneous doodling.

Sure it can look at an image and recreate. But it can't have fun.

Architects and urban planners will be happy to have a quick and easy tool to model existing buildings and interiors. Hopefully it will also be cheaper than 3D laser scanners.

Many things were supposed to go the way of the Dodo, like traveling to an office to work. Paper book sales have been declared dying for several decades now and the sales of paper books goes up.

Having a computer 'entity' designing and refining is OK but a human mind will still be able to pull off stunning and unique designs that make others say 'wow'.

I hope this remains. I loved the pads and communicators from Star Trek but a paper book is where it remains for me. Shocked myself realising that.
