Anyone Upgrading to 2020?

Help
I have had the classic license since it was available. However, I am lost on how to add the 2020 license. I still have some time on my last payment.
Version 2020 starts out with 30-day trial is over. I click on add classic license. And the info they ask for where is that found?
Help would be nice.
Thanks in advance
Ken.
Dave, help another bowler wearer.

Ken, as in the past, you should get an e-mail in the next few days with your 2020 license information. It takes the system a little while to go through all of the current classic-licensed users and send out the license information. You could also go to https://www.sketchup.com/license/renew and plugin in your 2019 serial number and license. I'm not sure how long it takes to get that updated but I expect it won't take long. In any case, nothing to panic about. You've got a month to add the license.
By the way, I edited your post to remove the screen shot that showed your serial number.

Thanks Dave.
About 4 weeks ago, I had a major problem. I was removing some plugins, and apparently I removed something that required me to re-install Sketchup 2019. I had the file, re-installed, but it didn't keep my plugins. Lost all my plugins, lost all the template for Sketchup and Layout.
Thanks Again.

What extensions were you removing that would require reinstalling SketchUp? Due to the location of them, you should be able to uninstall extensions without affecting the Sketchup installation at all. Also due to the normal locations of the files, reinstalling the same version of SketchUp shouldn't result in the loss of already installed extensions or materials, styles, custom templates, etc.
Make sure that you install SketchUp correctly no matter which version. Right click on the installer and select Run as administrator. If you didn't do that, you should go back and find the downloaded installer and do it. Choose Repair if the option is presented.
-
Like a fool, I didn't run the installer as an administrator. So when I opened up the program after the install it said my 30-day trial had expired and wouldn't let me go any further.
So I saw Dave post, I went back and ran the installer again, this time making sure I ran the installer as an administrator and used the selection repair. And now when I open the program, it says, open the program to start your 30-trial. And Sketchup opens. Now I get to see all the improvements.
Thanks Dave.

Excellent!

Yippy....!!
Some very cool stuff particularly with the huge improvement with Outliner. I'm glad to see something that I have requested over the years has finally come to fruition!! -
Yet another worthless release. Half of release notes describe layers to tags renaming.
Crazy... -
What a pointless, negative, close minded attitude.
-
That's the whole point there's nothing to discuss

Who's had this for a bit of a test-drive? Specifically w.r.t. extensions managing/leveraging LAYERS (now TAGS). Do they still work as expected?
Unfortunately I'm a little pushed for time do the trial and error myself right now.
-
"We now call them Tags! One of our three big new features for SU2020, besides the revolutionary option to hide objects (our new name for groups/components ) and transparent objects!!!"
WTF?!? Is this for real? Every year i think that this can't get worse anymore and next time has at least to be a step up - just to see that i was wrong again...
We'll see what all the alleged "performance" improvements are about. Since they aren't even mentioning improved viewport performance this time i think there won't be any.

Weโve spent a lot of time in 2019 learning more about what you, the user, wish SketchUp did better. Weโve been eyeing your comments on the forum and discussing ideas during our training events to see what trips up your workflow. So, thanks for speaking up! You helped us discover how youโre using SketchUp and how we can improve your design process, resulting in workflow improvements galore! Theyโre so good youโd think weโd been sneaking into design firms or something .
Ok, maybe next year...

Like I told you before. It's only a name change from Layers to Tags and instead of Layer 0, Untagged. Use them exactly the same way. Untagged is always active. All edges and faces are created as untagged and remain untagged. Give groups and components other tags like you used to give them layer assignments. Use the tags to control visibility while you are working or when creating scenes.

Erm, yes, I did take note of that and it did offer some comfort momentarily until the following occured to me. Working with a standard installation and using the TAGS (LAYERS previously) the change should be easy enough to adapt to if that is just that, a superficial name change. But surely extensions call to specific things within the program, if those references were changed then the extensions would no longer work. Unless the various functions (called by extensions) are listed internally alpha-numerically (or some kind of ID instead of a name related to the function which is now changed) instead of naming them, in that case the extensions should function as expected?
-
I suppose that will depend on the extension but it's up to the authors of those extensions to update them as they would be for anything else. Have you tried the extensions you are referring to?
I've used a recently released extension to manage layer/tag color and alpha. It was written before the author had any clue about 2020's Tags. It works in both 2019 and 2020.

thank you very much to formulate this so clearly I was already looking for (for me) meaningful German translation terms ... -

I expect translating 'tags' into other languages can be a bit challenging. I suppose a better term might be something like 'visibility property control tag' since that's really what it's for. But that's long (and probably even longer in German. ) and wouldn't fit in the Entity Info panel and there are people complaining about how wide the wide the panels are as it is.
Having spent the past fifteen years teaching SketchUp users that layers aren't the same as layers in 2D programs like many CAD programs, Photoshop, or Illustrator, I'm happy to see the back side of Layers in SketchUp.

Been running SU & LO 2020 for a few hours -> feels a bit snappy-er?!
- A nice productivity enhancement (controlling styles & layers in LO)
- Downside for me (using a Wacom) is the sensitivity of the Outliner. Selecting, re-ordering objects many times fails because the software switches to rename-mode for the object. have to adapt to that somehow. Would be nice if it would be possible to turn of the rename option for the Outliner altogether - always using the Entity info for that.
-
I printed out the LayOut Quick Reference Card. I noticed a series of menu icons in the Arrange column and other selections that I like. However, they don't appear in Sketchup. I was just wondering why these are not native plugins for Sketchup. Yes, I know they are different programs, but most of the plugins to me would be a welcome addition to Sketchup.
Dave as for the plugin that I un-installed was Fabber. A plugin to make flat layouts of parts for a CNC machine. The plugin manager could not uninstall the plugin, so I went to Revo Uninstall program. I guess I didn't look hard enough to see exactly what it was unstalling. I got back most of the plugins, but in Layout, but I lost all the Layout templates.
Going to be more careful.
Thanks in Advance

@HornOxx you're missing the 'tag' - I like the font though
