      Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a way to generate a good parts list from my Sketchup model which i can also document in Layout.
I have seen various cutlist extensions but I'm not sure if that is quite the right programme for me.

I design wine cellars, from wood mainly, but these designs need to be broken down into a basic parts list for costing purposes and the workshop. Further cutting and construction is done by manufacturing directly so something basic is all I need.

Any suggestions on how to do this directly in SU or a recommended extension would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you

I guess if I were doing that I would use CutList 4.1 by Steve R and available in the Extension Warehouse. If your model is correctly built, it'll give you all the detail you'd probably need. I use it for the furniture plans I create in LayOut and have no complaints.

          Hi Dave R,

          Thank you for your response.
I've seen the CutList extension but wasn't too sure if it works with SU 2019, do you know if i does?

If yes the I'll give it a go.

          Thanks again

Yes. It works just fine in SketchUp 2019. It isn't "signed" so you need to set loading permissions to allow unsigned extensions to load but it's safe so nothing to worry about.

That's interesting Alvis. I found that one more difficult to use than CutList 4.1. Different strokes...

As far as i know (i'm not sure, if i remember), there was a problem with laminated sheets standart between UK and EU. As well as different standards for plywood. Somehow I liked OpenCutlist more than CutList.

It's been a while since I tried OpenCutList, so I could be wrong. My recollection is that it, like several other cutlist extensions I've tried, requires you to add some extra attributes to each object, for example to tell it which way is the long axis of each board. Steve R's CutList needs no extra attributes or setup and I like that simplicity. It makes the assumption that the largest dimension is length, next largest is width, and smallest is thickness. That isn't always right but I don't find that to be a problem for my work. I prefer to organize the actual cutting of the boards based on grain, coloration, and flaws in the boards anyway, which requires me to think about which way they go.
