I just did a Ctrl + s on a model and it didn't Save it? Went to File > Save but Save was greyed out. I don't think this has ever happened to me before so what gives with that?

I closed the model and clicked yes when it asked if I wanted to save changes and that didn't work either.

when I first opened the file a Mssg. said something about the file being locked by another user.

must be general failure reading your harddrive again

whenever that happens just save as a different file name so that you don't lose any work

          Good tip juju!

I've been noticing that 'locked by another user' message a few times in the last couple months, why does that happen?

I don't understand 'general failure reading your harddrive'. My HD is healthy according to the hard disc monitor I use?

general failure reading your harddrive is just poking fun at "Who's General Failure, and why's he reading my harddrive?!" which in itself is poking fun at not knowing why some software is manifesting undocumented features.

I've noticed before that sometimes the OS takes a while (probably a minute, it feels like bloody ages though) to release a file. So, unfortunately I cannot help with your problem, only offer a pittance of advice.

Right on Juju, say, have you ever read The Covenant by James Michener?

it's a thick book, great historical about your country. I've read it maybe 10 times!

This implies that the location from which the file was opened can't be written to. This happens, for instance, when you open a file directly from a zip file. If you are experiencing a flaky hard drive, you could have the same problem. Don't screw around with it. It's time to get a different one.

Yeah these are files in regular folders I'm opening Dave. I have a HD monitor that says it's in perfect health?

I've had the "locked by another user" issue occasionally too. Maybe Windows Update related? For me, restarting the computer eliminates the problem, for a while at least.

                        To back-track...

When you see this saving problem, where are your trying to save the file to ?

Is it onto your main hard-disk ?
                        Is it onto a net-work drive ?
                        Is it onto a memory-stick ?
Is it to somewhere like 'DropBox' ?

                        These all have various implications...

No I'm just doing a Save, Ctrl S.

I opened that same file today without that message ..

Sorry but you didn't answer the question.

From where did you open that file ?

Was it on your main hard-disk ?
                            Was it on a net-work drive ?
                            Was it on a memory-stick ?
Was it somewhere like 'DropBox' ?

All of these origins will affect the destination of the 'Save'...

                            Please explain fully...

OK, so it's not a lag caused by too-many-steps-to-save !

This has been happening for years so not a big deal, I was just curious. It happened with my last computer too.
