Sketchup pro 2017 - crashing with window flashing
-
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.Yes, the card does appear like this:
Fast Feedback is enabled. Also 4x Antialising.
Also, I'm pretty confident I have the latest NVidia drivers installed.
Can I maybe add that I have the same issues on a different machine, again running an NVidia card..
Many thanks
PS. Had just updated my profile, before reading your post

Interesting. I have SketchUp running on four different machines all with Nvidia graphics but I've never had this happen.
You could try running with Fast Feedback disabled and see if there's any change.
When you installed SketchUp, did you right click on the installer and choose Run as administrator?
What extensions do you have running?
-
Hmm, didn't run as admin I think.. though, is this actually possible, without admin?
I think I remember Windows asking for admin rights..Will give Fast Feedback a pause and let you know!
Re extensions please screenshots below

To correctly install Sketchup on Windows you have to sign in to Windows under your normal user but then right click on the installer and select Run as administrator. This is different than your user having Admin rights.
At least to make sure, you could reinstall SketchUp using Run as administrator and select the Repair option.
Also see what happens if you disable Vray. It's been known to be a bit of a hog.

Thanks so much for the advice
I will now
- test Fast Feedback disabled
- reinstall SU as Admin
As for disabling Vray, it's not really an option, since it's very much part of my workflow.
Any advice on which Vray Version is more resource-friendly and/or more reliable?
I'm considering biting the bullet and upgrading, but wanted to check if it's worth the spend.. especially given I'm not missing any functionalities with 2017 and Vray 3.4..
-
I'm only suggesting that you disabled Vray to do some testing. Clearly if it is causing the problem, it shouldn't be a part of your workflow but you should find out. You could leave it disabled throughout most of your modeling and only enable it when you actually need it.
As for which version of Vray, I think the best thing there is to check with the folks at Chaos Group. I would expect your best bet would be to upgrade to SketchUp 2019 anyway and then get the latest version of Vray.
Personally I've never been a big fan of Vray and I've seen loads of reports of problems related to it. If I was choosing a renderer right now, I guess I'd be looking at others like Thea.

Hi again,
Quick update and request for help...
I uninstalled everything, and tried to reinstall SU as Admin, as per you recommendations.
Now for some reason the sketchup file thumbnails are broken..
Any ideas how to get this to work again?
-
PS. I was able to get the thumbnails to work again just by re-assigning SKP files to be opened by sketchUP 2017..
-
What about the crashing? And did you try disabling Vray?
-
Basically all previous things haven't changed a thing.. still having the crashes.
Now I reinstalled everything, just added the very bare of extensions necessary, including Vray and will give it a day or two to see how it goes..
Will keep you in the loop!

Good luck.
I think if you are still seeing crashes, Vray is the next suspect. Other people have reported issues with Vray so it's a good one to check.
