Salt Racer
-
Always loved watching the salt flat racing back in the 60's, when I was growing up. Who remembers Craig Breedlove's "Spirit of America" and Gary Gabelich's "Blue Flame" land speed record cars ?
With that in mind started to model my spin on an early salt flats car a good while back.. Kind of got put on the shelf and I dragged it back out today. Got the main body pretty well finished and a couple of the tires done. I'll throw up a pic now and again as it moves along.

I do!- I remember all these and I loved them, just like these Silver Arrow racing cars shapes - great, I'm already looking forward to the way you will go here

I remember it like I remember Apollo 11 and the Eagle has landed. We got to see that in school because most of us did not have a tv. Very nice thus far, I get hints of the aviation drop tank types used for many earlier racers. Keeping an eye on this, being a petrol head and all.

...obviously - I'm not the only gray-haired one here - nice!

Really nice start Tuna Cant wait to see the progress. I think the windshield will be hard to get right.

Nice work Tuna.
Waiting to see it finished. That Google page is really groovy:

Oh yeah, some of us don't even have one single hair left...@ Mike
"because most of us did not have a tv."
I said that to my grand son, he just laugh at me!and be careful not to finish like that

What I have left went through salt and pepper and is well on the way to Gandalf white, just not as much. Tried to talk to a friends son about not having a tv as a child and he could not get past the whole smart phone thing. I think the average younger person would go into melt down if dropped into the late fifties to early sixties. Even the whole 'home alone' franchise would be alien to them.

Well got a little more done. Did some reshaping to the body. A lot happier with it now. Got the front axle, hubs , spindles and such in place. Canopy suits me I think. Have to fiddle about with the trim ring some more. Not quite there yet.
Well remember Breedlove ending up in the salt pond. Crazy thing about that run is he hit a telephone pole near the end of the flat. Saw film footage from a camera in the cockpit during the run.... turned the pole into toothpicks !

Progress ! Think I've got it far enough along for some renders. The body took four versions until it suited me. Even chopped it up into sections for getting at the insides for tuning and repair . Sort of got the inside partway there. Looking for reference for all the inside bits and pieces. Finding dimension drawings for the engine and transmission is going to be a challenge.

First render of the exterior..... May take me a good while to figure out all the inside bits and pieces
