pretty mischief.

I guess there are others interested. I've checked this thread 99,000 times just for the banter.
-
@ function: No way! That would be the ultimate end.

I hope sketchup pro moves to web platform and we can finally get rid of those pesky desktop versions once and for all.
That would be my last day with SU

If you experienced a situation where you needed to be operated on - would you want a web app to say work on pumping your blood through your body to keep you alive? Then the internet goes down - OOPS.
Mission critical software should remain offline. As should CNC routers etc. This extends to large models where web apps will bring the entire system down to its knees !!!

I'm hoping "function" was joking, but if not YIKES!
If SU were to be Web only, Solo would need to change his name because there would be a heck of a lot of SU users joining him out the door.
-
afaik a guarantee for a periodic release of new main versions is not promised.
-
No "function" is very serious about this.
But we are getting off topic here. Any news about SU 2019 yet?

v2019 will feature 3 most anticipated features: a new logo, ability to choose color for your section planes and maybe some new politically correct human in default template
You'll see sadly I'm very close to reality -

...ability to choose color for your section planes
That already exists.
People will whine and complain no matter how many new features they add.

ranting is the new dedication

Are you sure you can assign individual color to a concrete inactive section plane?

Exactlty.. Even section colorization won't stop this whining

You mean 2018 would be your last SU update? IMO, SU can continue in its 2018 version indefinitely, what with the plugin ecosystem and Trimble's apparent unwillingness to add significant features.
(Also, I read @function's post as some clever trolling. )

Unless Windows and MacOS have some sort of update that breaks compatibility with v2018. Who knows what's down the line with them. I mean Apple has been hinting at an Arm based Macbook for a bit now. I don't see how an non updated SU2018 could run on an Arm based machine.

I am one of my own downvotes. I am stuck perpetually in 2017 Make.
-
full-quoting isn't nice either.
-
True, there are certainly obsolescence issues to worry about, but considering that I'm still using Windoze 7, it's not a particular worry for me.

Regarding 'complaining'...
I understand the SU-teams view of; 'keeping it simple' - and look for plugins if you need more fancy features.
But, complaining to me is very valid if, year after year, old and many times reported bugs still aren't fixed. The bugs cost me time, money & headaches and the bad thing is; reporting them on the official forum looks fairly useless.
Hoping V2019 will bring some positive surprises and in that case will gladly post a nice 'thank you' on the forum as well.rant off/

I have been a hardcore SketchUp user for probably twelve or thirteen years. I have also used a lots of plugins, courtesy this forum and my friends from whom I borrowed plugins. With SketchUp's unstability to handle large files, detailed meshes and its inability to handle curves properly and handling of complex geometry, I am slowly making a switch to Rhino and Grasshopper.
Being an architect, I am now slowly forming a notion that Grasshopper (invented by an architect) is quite useful for handling and generating geometry that incoporates mathematical logic, geometry that will take a long time to build inside sketchup unless until I know ruby or some other plugin that gives stiff competition to Grasshopper.
However, for rapid modeling, SketchUp will be always my hero. The delay in updates by Trimble corporation and not adding any new features is immensely disappointing indeed.
Trimble probably also turns a blind eye towards the wishlist that their customer post in various forums.
