Spaciship? Spaciship!

Like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon, pretty much describes the creation of any model. Getting there dood.

From here on I am going take each major mass block and detail them as new, separate files and then import them back as components.
This is easily done by copying the block I want to work on, opening a new file and then "Paste in Place". When they are imported back into the main drawing, they slot back exactly in the location they were copied from if they were not moved away from the origin point in the new file. When you import, be sure to use the origin point to place the imported component. (where all three axis meet)

I'll start back at the beginning with the bridge.
The first picture shows the relationship to copy and paste in place in new file. The second one shows the comparison updates.

Looking better all the time Bryan. Keep up the great work .
-
Thanks tuna.
Here is the bridge imported back into the main model and two more smaller mass blocks detailed and added.
-
Busy week at work. I'll post updates tomorrow.
-
Greeble panel as drawn by the artist.
-
Greeble panel placed back into model. Look close and just barely make out SketchUp person.
-
Tranport hanger doors.
I'm using very simple angles and push/pull offsets.
-
I forgot the close up of the guns. Again very simple trapezoids. Everything will get more detail over time, but not too much. The ship is so large that details too small are not worth modeling after a certain point.
-
Here is the bow detail. The gun was just turned upside down and push/pull used for equipment bay thing and simple arches and offsets for detail.
-
Here is how it's all fitting together so far. I may start work on the aft sections next.
-
Modified module imported back into model.
All non-detailed mass blocks are erased just before importing the modified mass block. Do not erase before. You might need it again until the detail is finished.
-
Roughed out angular modifications along the keel. Very long way to go underneath.
-
Couldn't resist posting another shot. Changed the shadow angle.
-
your first picture of this post compared to this last one - Wow !!
keep spaceshiping !!
