(SOLVED) Prevent Component dialog box to open
-
Hi,
I used to work on skp 2015, but recently upgraded to 2017.
Before, i managed to make groups with a keyboard shortcut then right clic and selected "make component" to make one. This was quite fast in the process, as any dialog box opened.
Now, when i right clic (or use shortcut) to make a component, the component dialog box opens and takes a while when I select "create". This makes my workflow uselessely being slower...
Is someone knowing any trick to avoid that dialog box to open ?Thx

Your post reminded me that I too wanted this function so with help from TIG I made this little Plugin.
To install put it in: C:\Users\Your user name\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018\SketchUp\Plugins
and start SketchUp. You'll find it under extensions -> To Component
Add it to a shortcut and you will have a quick way of creating a component from the selected geometry. -
RBZ that and stick it on the ExtensionStore. It's a great utility.

Ok I will but I think I will see if I can add some features.
I'm thinking how it works with ungrouped vs grouped entitys. As it is now if you run it on a group it will create a component with a group in it. I think it would be better if it just converted the group to a component.
I'll see what I can do. -
Here it is with some added features.

Makes a component without the Component Dialog.
If the selection is only 1 group it converts the group to a component.
If the selection is more than 1 item, a component will be made with nested groups or components or loose geometry as they were.
Add a shortcut for quick use.
