Changing default access of component library
-
I have pasted my components library here.
C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\Components
However when I go to components window, they don't show up. Sometimes I have to go to the "Open or create a local collection option" to open my component collection in the above mentioned path.
I have also mentioned this file location in Window>preferences>files>components.
What should I do to get quick access to my component collection?
I am using Sketchup 2017

Normally the shipped Components subfolder [and Materials and Styles too] in the Program Files path is reserved for SketchUp's shipped files only.
Permissions are limited and the intention is that you set up your own subfolders for these file types in your own USER path.Typically these might be like this...
C:\Users\USER\Documents\SketchUp\Components
... Materials
... Styles
etc
Useful for sharing across multiple versions.Alternatively consider using the USER's defaults...
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp\Components
etcThis is where the USER's Plugins folder lives etc, version by version...
Also the USER's Templates and Classifications are in there too...
The AppData folder's path is hidden by default, but changing Windows Explorer > Folder Options lets you see it...

To add to what TIG wrote, if you ever have a need to uninstall or reinstall SketchUp, you will lose your components when the installer overwrites the Components folder. Better to do as he says and use the User/App Data/... folder instead. It doesn't get touched during uninstall or reinstall.
