Download problem

well that did not work. I think the problem is with this computer, but what?
I downloaded and executed sketchup make 17 on someone else's computer with no issue. did not have to run as administer. have sketchup 15 running fine.
with task management running, the cpu max's out at 100% with 13,488k in memory. took down all unnecessary programs including IE.
I think I need to go for some expert help. -

Could this be a problem of drivers being out of date??????
I was cleaning out prefetch and temp files and notice crash report(s) in temp, opened it and notice ati radeon wordage in the pdf file. did a google on this. did an analysis of divers - says 8 outdated. they wanted $9.99 for an installed. passed.
will take this computer to a tech shop tomorrow....joe
-
Yes. It could be drivers. You shouldn't need to pay for driver updates.
-
success.
although I have been doing this a while, I am still a novice at this and probably at a lot of things.
on a lark I went to the official Amd site and downloaded their drivers( no charge).
Now I can make problems in make 17.
Thanks for pointing me ....joe

Good job.
-
doing a post analysis of this problem, why? What is peculiar about sketchup make 17 ?
Is it a newer version of ruby ?...joe
-
To what are you referring? Ruby has changed over the years and so it's always important to install the most recent versions of extensions to go with the latest version of SketchUp.
-
2017 uses new graphics pipeline that does a GPU check to make sure your system can run it.
Older AMD cards are notorious for not playing nice with SketchUp.
Also, some installer requires certain Microsoft libraries to fire. If that does not happen then it should go a fetch what it needs. But that could be stopped by a firewall, antivirus etc. Then you might end up going nowhere.
Lots of things can go wrong installing on Windows. Especially when you are not Running as Admin as Dave says.
Your problem does suggest a local issue in your system rather than a global issue.
-
like I said, I am a novice here and on a learning curve and will be I think for a long time. It was proven to be a local issue; obviously I don't know about the handshaking .
run as admin - why? this was installed without.
just trying to understand..... joe

Rich explained why you need to use Run as administrator when installing SketchUp 2017. It may appear to function now even though you didn't install correctly but you can pretty much count on problems cropping up. The best thing would be to go back to the installer, right click on it, and choose Run as administrator. Then select the Repair option when the option is presented. There's no point in waiting for problems to occur.
FWIW, I haven't been repeatedly telling you you that using Run as administrator is the correct way to install it just for the fun of it.

I have spent 20+ years as a systems programmer for large IBM systems. The first rule we learned when diagnose problems is what is different, what has changed ?
The problem in my case there were system changes with the cpu that were needed. if it was stated when the product was release, I missed it.
Where in the literature does it say run as admin.?
Dave, loose the attitude; I don't need it and I don't want it. If you want to maintain it, don't respond to my posts..... joe

I'm sorry you think I have an attitude. I've only been trying to help you. There was no "attitude" involved on my end.

It's pretty clear who has an attitude problem in this thread.

You're one of the most helpful people I've even known Dave, here and on the other SUp forum

Dave, after a few days of reflection and a memory dump, I owe you an apology. I was out of bounds in my remarks and you deserve better. I am trying to reflect on my though process and don't have good answer.
Of course, you are trying to help, much more than I do.I am sorry. ..... joe
