-
hello,
up to v 2016 i could work on older laptops,
v 2017 now reports a missing open gl etc.is it possible to run 2017 somehow also on older systems (which still work well ? even a certain loss of performance would not be a problem....
thanx

When getting an error like you could try to update your gfx-drivers. If you're really lucky that fixes it. If not, your gfx card maybe is really too old for the newer functions that Trimble added to v2017.
If you can, maybe you can you share your gfx-card / laptop specs? -
If you have Internet maybe better is to use https://www.sketchup.com/products/my-sketchup

To my knowledge no, system requirements were not arbitrary as SU2017 has a new graphics engine that requires certain hardware, the option previous of disabling OpenGL and run on CPU alone has been removed (AFAIK).

I'll rephrase that: "If you have fast, reliable internet and do not make use of plugins and do not care for .SKB (backup) files."

To recap...
SketchUp 2017 is now 64 bit only [so if your old laptop is only 32 bit it's no good].
It also has the following minimum system requirements:
2.1+ GHz Intel processor.
4 Gb or more RAM.
500 Mb of available hard-disk space.
3D-class video card with at least 512 Mb of memory, or higher and which supports hardware acceleration.
Also ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 3.0 or higher, and that it is up to date.
You'll also need a 3-button, scroll-wheel mouse. -
hello to all
and thanx for checking my problem. i will check the specs in detail,
maybe it is time to buy a new notebook than....
thanx a lot again
