I have not used Vray in over 7 years, however, this looks amazing.
I'm assuming this is both CPU and GPU? Is there a hybrid engine? Does it support multiple GPU's?
Hi solo,
V-Ray 3 can use CPU or GPU depending on the rendering mode selected but not both at the same time (there is no hybrid functionality).
Multiple cards are supported and can be used either on one computer or over the network with the help of V-Ray Swarm.Regards,

Does anyone know how long the trial period is?

Which is faster? In other words, considering current CPU and GPU prices, is it more beneficial to have a faster CPU, or a faster GPU?
Regarding the license, could someone please clarify exactly what this means?Purchase includes one workstation(GUI) license and one render node license.
Is it possible to buy one license, using it on a PC for several months, and later start using another PC, with the same license? I have a fairly old PC, and I'm hoping to buy a new one later this year, I'm wondering if I could start using V-Ray on the old one, and transfer the license to the new machine in 6 or 12 months.

My company is going to love this! I hope Chaosgroup will produce a comprehensive tutorial how to setup a good working PC that can do more or less what you have shown in the video (interactive GPU) well aside from the software tutorial they regularly

Will there be or are there some new tutorial to help get up to speed?
Will the help files be expanded as well?I've been using the beta version and a lot of in depth information was missing on the new layout and some of the new features.
Congrats to the Chaos team, and thanks you for this new version,
cant wait to get my hands on it. -

So, say I have 3 x 1080 ti's will it use all 3?
Hi solo,
V-Ray will automatically use all the cards(GPUs) available.
In case you need to limit the utilization you can use the following interface:Extensions > V-Ray > Tools > (GPU Device Selection)
It lets you un-check any card/s that you don't want used for rendering.Regards,

Ive just updated to version 3 on sku2016. My early impression is that the workflow speed has dramatically increased due to the ability to make quick tweaks to lighting and materials through the new slick ui as well as quality settings. Very promising.
Previously my 6 core 3930k processor has made good render times on version 2. All 12 threads at full pelt.Im intigued to experiment with gpu for rt and production renders but question is, how many gpu cuda cores will it take to out strip my processor?? After all its either cpu or gpu choice. Could be an expensive mistake buying 2x gtx1070's or the new titanx pascal?? We need comparitive results from chaos using different engines with different hardware.
My gtx 780 is set up in vray with 2304 cuda cores but as yet is not giving me accurate textures..a bug? I need to know whether to upgrade the gpu or cpu count. Hopefully we will get answers soon..cheers -
Take note that this is still using the 3.4 engine and we do not have the full interactive production engine that is currently in 3.5 for Max. Meaning - that there are some missing features in GPU as of right now that we need to wait for 3.5 for.
Here's the release notes for 3.5 Max just as an idea of what is to come potenitally.

That UI is very slick.
Way more approachable.

Guys, does anyone know if Vray for Sketchup 3 supports Substance's .sbsar? and what about the vray bevel procedural?

Bevel edges is very easy, use edge texture in bump slot or apply a bump material to object with edge texture. You could tweak the radius via assest editor.
PBR mat seems not supported in V-Ray right now. They will have glossy fresnel in the future update. So I don't think anything will be done, people have to convert SBS manually to Vray Mtl,just such a pain.
Best

Thanks for the info.
But I was under the impression vray for max had substance support. Am I wrong?

Some people wrote Max plugins to convert PBR material to Vray mtl. But I don't think Vray can achieve exactly same result as Substance painter.
