Installing a plug in
-
hello,
i downloaded a plug-in from sketchucation but cannot figure out how to install it. the file extension is .rbs (not rbz), so it is not recognized in SU. i changed the extension to .rbz for a try, but would not install. any ideas?
thank you, gregg

Your report is somewhat short on helpful detail...
Where did you get that .RBS file from ?
Almost all of the plugins available from SketchUcation's PluginStore are .RBZ
An .RBZ can be installed using the native Preferences > Extensions > Install Extension... button
The probably old .RBS might be an old, outdated attachment and no longer compatible...If you can't find a current .RBZ version to install you could try to manually move its .RBS into your Plugins folder...
Or you could ZIP the RBS file and rename its .ZIP as a .RBZ file... which will then install using the native installer...BUT be prepared for disaster if it's not compatible...
May I suggest that before you do anything drastic, that you explain better what it is you got and from where you got it etc...

heh, I downloaded it from here and you are actually the author. I downloaded again to start over as i didn't recall the steps i took. I installed the extension 'SectionCutFace' but it is not appearing under extensions in SU (2015). I found the files under Appdata (eg. SectionCutFace_code.rbs) which I would guess would be your code. Still for whatever reason, it does not show up in SU.

I found it under the Sketchucation plugin manager but do not know how to make it run.

The instructions for use are provided on the information page for the plugin. It will be found in the Context menu when you context click on a section plane.

There should NEVER be a SectionCutFace.rbs file located directly in your user Plugins folder [or any rbs file with a similar name - see below...]
How did you install it ?
It looks like you somehow 'unzipped' it into your Plugins folder, and somehow destroyed the subfolder structure !?When it's correctly installed its footprint is:
../Plugins/SectionCutFace.rb [the only SectionCutFace related file in Plugins - note it's .rb, not .rbs...]
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/ [SectionCutFace's only subfolder, containing the following four files - note the filetypes...]
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/SectionCutFace.constants
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/SectionCutFace.hash
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/SectionCutFace_code.rbs
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/SectionCutFace_start.rbs../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/ [a sub/subfolder containing the following six .strings files...]
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-DE.strings
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-EN-US.strings
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-ES.strings
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-FR.strings
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-IT.strings
../Plugins/SectionCutFace/Strings/SectionCutFace-PT-PT.strings
Firstly please remove any ../Plugins files that are not right.
I.E. anything with 'SectionCutFace' in its name etc...
And also look for a rogue Strings folder with 'SectionCutFace' strings files in it...Now use the Preferences > Extensions > Install Extension... button to [re]install everything in the v6.0 RBZ - which is downloadable from the PluginStore...
http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=SectionCutFaceYou could also install it seamlessly by using the ExtensionStore³ tool in the SketchUcation toolbar etc, which avoids even downloading the RBZ...
When it is properly installed, then it should be seen under Preferences > Extensions and be already active after the installation - but if it's not check/active, probably because of your earlier issues, then check its box to activate it...
One somewhat unusual thing with SectionCutFace is that it has no menu/toolbar entries.
But if you select a single Section Cut Plane and right-click... the context-menu will then offers you the options to add the SectionCutFace, and depending on its type/settings you can also choose to remake it etc... @DaveR beat me to it... his illustration shows the detail... -
okay, thanks to you both for the help. i will give it a go.
