Real world Wip. Glass sculptures.

Moving into the next stage, the lamination process.
Some awfully big and temperamental machines.
Here we will be heat bonding batches of six layers together to form 28 200kg blocks.
These will then be cold bonded to create the final two block.
Here's a couple of pics to give the lie of the land.

looks like a very painstaking process, bet it will look pretty incredible when complete.
-
Monster machines for the monster project...
-
First bit of cooking.
18 layers of glass ready to be taken out of the oven.
A nice 600kg
-
As we move up through the layers it starts to be more recognisable as a figure, or at least parts of a figure.
-
A new stage of the process. this is 4 of the cooked blocks racked on the gluing rig.
It's not that interesting to look at but is a major step towards completion.
The top section of the steel rack will clamp around the completed block and separates from the rest to be used for transportation and final lift and rotation into position.

that's insane!
this thing must cost!
-
Yes, Cost indeed, we'll barely break even on them I'm afraid. But they'll get us other more lucrative work.

Thank god for artists, always optimists. XXX

The further along this goes, the more impressed I get. Hope the "they'll get us more lucrative work" ends up actually happening. Been down that road plenty, always turned into a dead end for me.

Amazing work. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the update and pictures.

We are finally getting close to having one finished.
How he looks tonight with just a work light.

Agreed, more impressive all the time.

Once again been too busy to post lately but finally getting close to the end.
Quite a few technical bits and lighting etc to come so it will be another month or so until they are on site and properly visible.
But here they are just before the last 200 kilo block it fixed on the second one, basically making them finished.
They are almost impossible to photograph in this situation as the surroundings seem to suck the light out of everything. But in real life they are quite something.

Paranormal!
We should do a case study on this if you're up for it?
Show how you went from SU concept to reality. It'd be amazing
-
Nice idea Rich, but maybe we could do it on one that is a little less complex. I'll be doing some that will be far easier to document the files and reality after this one. This has been 2 years in the making and a great deal of the R&D and changes in technical design decisions have been swallowed up in a pint glass or three.
-
It would be interesting to see a case study, not the usual or run of the mill for sure. Nicely done to you all Box.
