Axes and Glue Plane help needed

Greetings,

I've been struggling with setting my component gluing plane and axes correctly. I've watched tutorials and believe I'm mimicking correctly, but when I drag this component into an existing model with a wall it sticks out vertically from the wall instead of gluing to it like a normal wall element.

I was hoping someone with more experience could start me in the right direction. I have to orient quite a few components in the coming months!

You have the component axes set correctly. All you need to do is change Glue to: to Vertical. Go to the Components window. Select the component and click on the Edit tab. Change Glue to: to Horizontal and Bob's yer uncle.

Thank you very much for your reply. I may have stumbled upon a root cause. The first screenshot I attached shows the position of the component axes when I bring it into a model after locating it through the "Open Create a Local Collection" dialog from the Components window of Sketchup. The second screen shot shows the position of the axes when I open the component file directly from the same folder in File Explorer.

Perhaps I'm not saving the component correctly. I've tried every method imaginable, but the axis stays as shown in the first shot. Is there another way I should be saving it to get the axis to stay where I want it when I bring the component into another model?

A gluing component's blue axis must be perpendicular to the face onto which you want to glue it.
If you make a gluing component from selected geometry, that was originally arranged on a face, then SketchUp assumes that you want it to glue and that the axis is arranged appropriately - so it sets the behavior and axes accordingly.
However, if initially it's not been set up as you want, then you can always change the component's axes later on [Select it and use Context-menu > Change Axes - but existing instances will still be unglued], and/or changing the gluing behavior separately by editing the component later.
You can choose to glue on to a variety of face orientations, all 'all'.
The 'cutting-behavior' [if set] also needs gluing set, and a full loop of edges located on the plane of the 'glued-to' face...

The axes shown in your last post do not appear the same as those in the file attached in the first post. And if you do as Dave says it works just fine.

Thank you for the support. I have a love/hate relationship with this tool, but I'm feeling more love as I learn more. It's opening up quite a few possibilities. Thanks again!
