Altering axes in a model.
-
Hi,
I am looking for a way to alter ALL of the component and group axes to meet the ground zero of the model view screen. All at once rather than one at a time where they often will NOT remain altered but have a habit of reverting.
Some models source from different programs have the axes messed up on conversion or importation, this is what I am trying to fix, permanently.
Ta.

Did you look through the extensions available in the PluginStore? A simple search for "axes" turned up TIG's Originate Component Axes which might do the job. There's also ThomThom's Axes Tool which resets the component axes with the origin where you specify.
Never in more than 12 years of using SketchUp have I ever seen component axes move without my input.

When I alter the axes in a group or component I will often find that when I late go back to that group or component the axes have reverted. This is something I have seen many times.
It really does not help for you to tell me you have never seen this, it really is not relevant as I am reporting what I have seen.
Why add this comment?

I would have said the same thing.
Dave gave the answer to your question and only then pointed out that something you were experiencing was not usual.
Perhaps if you gave us an example of one of these misbehaving components we could help you see what the problem is. -

Unfortunately, Dave phrased his reply in a way that suggested skepticism to you. But I think his point is that what you report is not a known or common issue so it must be somehow tied to exactly what you do or, no offense intended, to misunderstanding of what you observe. That is not to say there can't be a bug, rather, that something that you do is provoking it. So, please provide a more detailed discussion of all the steps you follow and if possible an example of a model that suffers this effect. Then others can see whether they can reproduce it and provide a diagnosis.

it sound like you use 'Align Axis' which is a temporary state by design...
for a post import ruby fix, you need to clarify what file types you refer to as the vary greatly...

Maybe that would explain why I haven't ever seen the axes move on their own. If I want to change a component's axes location, I use Change Axes which is not temporary.
