Hey - this is a pretty cool and complex gizmo for your SubD-intro
(like Pilou I had no idea what it could be ) -

(like Pilou I had no idea what it could be )Thanks... Lot's of stuff left unmodelled that won't be seen in a distance. Quad modelling is very awkward to me and really unfit for what I do most of the times, but hitting the subd button is addictive.

Just for fun.
I'm sure you can imagine the many possible shapes that can be manipulated out of that lattice with just a few edges moved.
And for those of the 3d print world, this mirrored array will export as a printable .stl for many printers. -
A good example what the right tool in the right hand can do...

Homer Simpson - a Just for Fun Work in Progress
to model something that looks so simple as a 2d sketch, can get a real challenge in 3d ...
For example Homerβs large and all-covering eyes work in a drawing but not as a 3d model
in the same way. Next to the render I also show a few impressions of the taken path.
Anyway, I intend to complete this sympathetic guy completely ...Cheers

Printed this today just to show that a complex selection of components will print as a solid, without needing to be made a solid.

That's cool. If it could be combine in a clear glass vase, you'd have a best seller next Valentine's day!
